I still like Single Actions.

Now that Spring is here, my handgunning activity has revved up a lot. I just came back from the barn where I shot some pidgeons with a SA .22 revolver and shot loads.

I have DA revolvers and semi-auto pistols, but my preference for general shooting is with SAs in .22 caliber, .41M, .44 Special and .44 Magnums. My all time favorite carry gun for woods loafing with the dog is the Ruger .41 Magnum. I just like the feel and function of single actions that is hard to describe. I occasionally see chucks or coyotes in my walks afield and they give me and the .41M sport. Being a handloader, I get to keep my brass with the SAs.

Who else likes SAs?

I have as many SA revolvers as DAs and pistols combined.

My favorite is my custom 41 Special, followed closely by my Single-six.

Adam, I've got two of em...both Colt's 45LC SAA and a 41 Bisley. I aquired
both of em from a rancher we used to hunt on in Crockett County Texas. Both are early 1900's.....will go NRA fair in appearance as they were used daily in ranch work. They are tight and sound...I just do not want to shoot em.....rather look at em and dream!

Nothing seems to fit the human hand as nicely as a single action. There is just something about them that is hard to put into words. I love my Vaquero and my single six, between my Dad and I has had truckloads of .22's run thru it. I've put as many as 4 bricks thru it in a weekend.

Bang for the buck, is there a more fun gun than a .22 single action? Not for me.

I still have a few SA guns. Right now I am out of 44s and 41s but I do have a few 38-357s and a few 22s. I have always loved a good roam in the woods with a single six. There is always something that just needs a hole or two, especially from those trash piles at old abandoned farm sites.

I`m another one of those old guy that never got over the SS craze. At the last Lima gun show I picked up a 3 screw Ruger in .41 mag. I`ve wanted one for alot of years and found one that`s abt. 95 % for $400 so I bit the bullet and forked out the cash. Guess I`ll have to buy loading dies for it now.

She has a 6 in. barrel. Looks real nice laying there whit my other 3 screws. I have a .22 convertable, a .357, the .41 now, a .44 mag and a .45. The New model Rugers are alright, but their just not a smooth as the 3 screws and the triggers on the old 3 screws was pretty good from the factory. Love the 3 screws! :D

i think my favorite is Rockys 41special i fired a few rds out of it and it left in imprint in me time cant overcome.

i had a 44m superblack hawk hunter for shortwhile and i found it very fun to shoot jack rabbits with. i had just started getn settled down with 310gr cast bullets when it was stolen from me, the SA had deer and bear plans. it had the bisley grip frame. i have big hands bisley fit me great.

My favorite single action is the Colt. I have a Third generation that some fast draw idiot buggered up a bit making it a bit unsafe. It will fire from the safety, half cock and full cock notches. Colt wants too darn much for a new trigger and hammer but being cognizent of the problem, I know how to handle it. It has the 4 3/4" barrel and is light enough that it is carryable all day long. A Keith style 250 gr. bullet and a stiff charge of Unique finishes off the package. One of these days, I'm going to whittle out a decent one piece grip for the gun that doesn't feel like a pregnant cow. My First generation Colt made in 1908 has grips that feel just right as did the Second Generation .45 I had back in the early 1960's.
That hair triggered .45 has come to be my favorite hiking handgun and I figure it'll handle any problems I have with predators, either two or four legged on my mountain hikes.

I like your hiking handgun for 2 and 4-legged predators. Here in fishing season my biggest concern are the legless critters-aka rattlesnakes. I just got some .41 caliber gas checks to make up a box or two of my "snake loads." I use a dose of Unique, a gas check with the bevel up on top of the powder, a dose of #8 shot and then a gas check bevel down, flush with the case mouth, roll crimped slightly to make a minature brass shotgun shell. I go along the mountain streams with fly rod and 6" .41 Blackhawk.

The Fish & Boat Commission manages rattlers and there IS a $5.00 permit and a 2-per day, month, year LIMIT, I dunno. I just fish and mind my own business and reload my snake loads as needed.

I have been known to carry one as a CCW arm as well.
