Haven't bought the darn thing yet but here goes.
An old model Ruger 77 in 257 Improved with cases some ammo and RCBS dies. Has a Simmons or some odd scope on it. Bore looks good and the stock is fair. Been carried and hunted but seems to be ok. Price is fair I guess at 300 bucks. As it is a Wildcat just wondering if there are any pitfalls to be concerned with? What say you guys?? Need just a little help on this'un

HAHA!! Got you beat this week! A lady from the bank called Friday, they had gotten in five rolls of silver half dollars (silver clad kennedys) and she remembered I collected coins. Picked up 100 silver halves for $50 (IE face value of .50 cents each) and they are EVERY one in good condition, and 20 of them in the roll are in very near mint condition (very bright you can see your reflection in them). The good ones have very minor wear with a few with scratches but all with great detail and very clear dates and lettering. :D Soon as the directfit airtites come in I ordered they will get put up for sale. Already had an offer from they guy I ordered the directfits from of $40 a roll for the good condition ones (remember I paid $10 a roll). I am still considering that one, but I don't think he is going to get them.

:D

Good find. Now...Need some "real" silver dollars?? Have a couple hundred I want to sell. At the yard sale I did buy a couple sets of S&W N frame grips. One set of (I think) Rosewood and the other are probably walnut. Both in good condition. Also bought a Dillon 2000B vibratory case cleaner($40) as well as at least 2000 once fired 38 cases($5) At another yard sale I found 25 lbs of walnut polishing media for 3 bucks. I also got some underground wire to run the wiring to my garage for 5 bucks. 350 ft of it. Still need to know about the 257 Improved? Any probs with it?? At the yard sale where I bought the walnut stuff the guy had a Chilean Mauser for 175 bucks. Was it worth that? Nice shape..bore was almost perfect..stock redone at some time in the not too distant past. Matching numbers too.
Know anybody that "needs" a few thousnd 9mm cases. I have more than 45 lbs of 'em and I hardly ever shoot the 9. Most are polished. Found at the walnut yard sale a whole bunch of once fired AA 12 ga empties. Didn't buy them cause I really don't shoot the 12 that much. He still has 'em . In a 12 ga wad case box that is full.

The 257 improved should be a humdinger. You can fire factory 257 Rbts in it in a pinch, and that is a good way to form brass for the cartridge. It will keep up with the 25-06 useing les powder and do for most anything short of elk. Probably work well on them too. Loading data is not hard to find, I`d grab it.

I called the fellow this evening and am going to pick it up in the morning. He wanted cash for the rifle so I had to wait till today to get cash at the bank. I usually only carry at the most 200 when yard sale diving. I did give 50 bucks to hold it.

You are sure "Livin Right" to find such a deal.
Congrats for sure!
I have a couple of the 257R's In "Ackley" Improved (40 degree shoulder.) RCBS also has an "Improved" version but at present I cannot remember the shoulder angle. Either way YOU Sir have a good deal. Oh, I guess I should mention than the ones I have are in a Remington Model 722 and a Ruger 77 MKII.
Both are great shooters and I have taken an Elk or two with the 722. Neck shots with the 120 grain Noslers.
Ain't it STILL all about Bullet placement???
Hope you have a long and lasting friendship with yore new shootin iron.

The 257 Bob AI is a great cartridge. If you don't like it I'd buy it from you.

I need a quarter bore. Yeah, like I NEED another hole in the head. ;)

But I am serious about it though.

Best wishes, Bill

I'm gonna try her out a bit and see what she does. I know that the Ruger 77 isn't always the most accurate rifle. Evidently they bought some pretty rotten bbls in the past. But we'll see. Luckily every old model 77 I have had has been pretty good. The worst of the bunch was an 06 I had and it would do under an inch and a half most of the time. Most accurate was a 25-06 that would keep 'em under 3/4 in most of the time

Ya just have to understand. I LOOK for this stuff...I ask for shooting stuff. Had an older lady that had a bunch of RCBS stuff..Complete loading setup for 270 06 and 38-357. I really didn't need it but I did sell it for her. My commission was the components that she had. ...300 30 cal bullets couple hundred 270's couple lbs of powder and primers for everything. She was happy and so was I. NOW...don't ya NEED some silver dollars?? I gotta get rid of 'em.. Imelda...er ahh...Momma needs a new pair of shoes!

Skeet, I'll take a look tomorrow but I may have a batch of .257 AI brass I got in a trade a few years ago. What caliber is the Chilean Mauser?

Was 7mm. Never saw one any other caliber. Guy didn't know what he had anyway. He told me it was 8mm...but nowhere near big 'nuff for that.

Well skeet honey, I got ya beat this time.

When I was a youngun (12 yrs old) my uncle Carl bought me a H&R 20 single shot shotgun.
When my Pop died (I was 15) the gun went missin. I thought maybe it had gotten mixed up with some of Pop's things my Mama "divvied" out, and thought it was lost forever.
My uncle Carl died in 2000, and I thought of that gun often.
Then a couple weeks ago I was helpin and olf friend out and we kinda got on the subject of guns, and he told me he had somethin I might be interested in.

He did in fact have my old gun, my Mama apparently had "divvied" it out to him for a few bucks. He gave it to me and didnt charge me a cent although I told him I would triple what he paid for it. It looked like the day I last seen it. Had my hash marks in it and all.
Im a sentimental fool and it made my year to have my old gun back. I'll probaly never shoot it...but I think it'll fit the lil Lilred when she turns 12, dontcha think??? lol
BTW, she caught her first fish all by herself the other day, kid went nuts. She is hooked now, on huntin and fishin. She is somethin else, lemme tell ya...anyway we got a pic with the cell phone...have to figure out how to get it online and I'll post it.

It's really great when something like that happens. My first gun my father bought me went missing when he died. He was using it for rabbit hunting. I know who has it but can't prove it. She just took it outta the house after he died. Wasn't anything special..just an ol Winchester M-37 410. That is what it cost all them years ago ....37 bucks. He gave it to me with the tag still ahangin on it..which I still have. Glad ya got yours back. Take care of that young'un. Keep her huntin and fishin. Ain't nothing better for a kid...boy or girl. Glad to see ya postin again. Stay round more.:D
