Ok I am minding my own business out side cleaning stuff that fell in the pool due to the storm....my dogs are out chasing lizards and then I hear all hell break loose...I look over and see this bird sitting on the back of one of the patio chairs making a racket and my dogs have a "hunt in their eyes" .....I scream "leave it" and they back off...I put the dogs inside, walk up to the bird and it initially looks like those pesky parrots that are all over the place down here...but he isnt moving and the more I look at him, the more I see this is one beautiful bird. I put my hand out and he walks right onto it. To make a long evening short...he is so sweet, wings are clipped, not banded, tame and obviously belonged to someone...I put ads all over in the lost pets, but meanwhile we made a run to Pet Supermarket and he is sleeping in style now. I researched and think he is some kind of Conure, but there are a lots of variations....this is great...house full of bird dogs and this falls in my lap....:(

The dog whisperer and the bird whisperer collide:D Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know you'll do what's right. Lucky for that bird you found it and not someone else.

When the old boys son decided to move to South America he wanted to do something nice for his Dad. He sent him 2 big blue birds with some kind of yellow thing on their head. The dad opened the gift and said how thoughtful of his son. In a few weeks, the son called dad and asked how he liked the birds he sent. Dad said...great son, went well with the gravy and taters. The son yelled at him saying they were very expensive birds weren't for eating and could even speak 2 different languages. Dad said...well then son, one of them should have spoken up!

Now thats funny....i loved it...still laughing...I think my guy is hooked on him, he called me 3 times at work asking me about names...the last one was BUBBA.....I should just tattoo a confederate flag on my forehead and get it over with...so any suggestions...?

How about " fetch dead, or hunt dead in here, or oh nevermind...I think it is young and it was speaking something last night over and over...but it was very low and I just didnt get what it said, hell my luck its probably Cuban..

Or you could do "whoa" or "come in" or "hunt close" ... you name it. Val, what kind of dogs do you have? How's the bird surviving with them dogs around?

You could always name it "lucky" ....

I have two Pointers and a chocolate lab...

I had the bird out in my lap last night , my one pointer Huckelberry ....spotted him and immediately was on point...his little jaw was so tight...and I let him ease closer all the while talking to him...easy, easy, leave it, leave it, all the calming things I say to him without actually using the word "BIRD" ....the closer he got the more Huck drooled...I didnt take that as a good sign...so I didnt push my luck or the birds luck I should say...after that encounter I might as well name him TOAST.. anyway my best friend is a big bird person, she is down to one African Gray who can repeat anything..she said if the owner didnt come forward she would take him as company for her bird..
