If you could take a 360 Bull this year, what would your number one choice be?

I'm not much of a pistolero for hunting, but I do hunt w/ muzzleloader and rifle. I would love to take a trophy w/ the muzzleloader, but would choose a good rifle for a trophy hunt.

skeet,
Makes sense... You only see the big ones when ya don't have a tag.
I won't be too concerned about how much antler they're carrying... This will be my first attempt at taking an elk (with a bow, none the less), so anything will be a trophy.;)

I wish all of you the best this year. I haven't been out west in several years now but did put in for sheep in NM. Maybe one day. Thanks for the pics Val. That keeps us all pumped!
Good hunting,
grayghost
I like a repeating rifle for elk. Shoot twice into the chest organs and its all over real quick.

Guess that would be a rifle but the hunt unit and rules dictate that

I agree if to dissagree. If you don't think one shot will put the animal down. Then no shots should be tskn.
If your shooting a caliber appropriately to put an elk down recoil will most likly. Mean you'll have to recover before a second shot is taken.
You must struck a nerve because now that little voice in my head is Tsongas me you've most likly never killed and possibly never hunted elk.

There won't be any Elk left if these wolves keep it up. Some units that supported over 23,000 Elk are now down to less than 1,600. Wolf whiners say we're making this up; wolves only kill the sick and weak; Bears and Cougar are killing all the Elk, and the best one yet: we just want more Elk so WE HUNTERS can kill them all. If you love Elk, then email, write or call your Senator, Congressman and tell them your NOT happy about dumping these Yukon Canadian Wolves into our western eco-system. 61% tested so far have serious parasites and diseases. Elk and Deer are already showing up with it; huge tumors in their lungs. If you hunt wolves, DO NOT handle them without wearing disposable gloves. This has become deadly serious guys and gals. gg

GG...you've only touched on the exterior of the problem. We have a bunch of socialist/communists in this country who don't have a clue..or have more than a clue and want to change the world to their ideal..and doing it in little pieces is how it's done. The wolves are just wiping the elk out..not because they kill 'em all. They keep 'em from breeding. The bulls don't even bugle cause it's like a dinner bell for wolves..so is a gun shot for wolves and grizz. If they don't bugle though the breeding cycle is really messed up..kind of a necessary part of breeding. The elk calf crop is under 10% in most of the units in my neck 'o the woods. No way to sustain a herd that way..especially since the wolves are breeding like flies and the lifespan of an elk is shorter than a wolf. The Good ol boys are killin a few..even without a season. I'm proud of 'em. We as hunters, paid to bring the elk back from the brink of extinction..now our dollars are paying to destroy the herds. This doesn't make sense. Hunters have paid since the 30's..willingly..not it is time to tell those people in Washington..no more. Do we NEED wolves?? Of course..but they were here, Not many but they were native to this country..not these imported killing machines we have no control over.. for political reasons.

Well said skeet. I was just in Idaho. Area's where there were no wolves; decent numbers of ruminants. Wolf areas...void of big game. This fall there will be a wolf season in most of the States affected...kill them all. These are not native timber wolves, rather huge Gray Wolves imported from the Yukon. gg
