I currently have a Mossberg 500 12ga combo with the bead barrel and Improved Cyl. slug barrel. I am wanting to put a scope on the gun, but if I do this it will make it useless with the smoothbore regular barrel.
I am thinking of putting Ironsighter see thru shotgun mounts on so that way I can use the slug barrel with a scope and then if I change barrels I can use the "see thru" for the vent rib smooth bore for rabbit/squirrel etc...
What are your thoughts on this subject with wanting a scope on a 500, but needing to use both barrels?
Dads, does your slug barrel have any means of mounting a scope on the barrel?
If so, that would be the best way to go. With the scope mounted on the slug barrel, the scope stays with the barrel when you switch barrels, and the scope stays in zero.
Any set up where the scope is on the receiver, and you'll have to re zero every time you change barrels.

I don't know what the mounts you're talking about look like but I had a set of see-thru mounts a while back and didn't really like them cuz the scope sat up a little too high.

With the improved cyl. Mossberg 500 barrel there is no way to mount the scope to the barrel - that is my problem...

I think, as long as you don't mind how high they sit, do what you gotta do. The see-thru mounts definitely add some versatility.
You might want to look for a slug barrel that has a scope mount on it. That would be the ideal solution.

Economy is bad as we all know. I can't afford to get another barrel at this time, that is why I am using the smooth with IC which is ported from mossberg - it was a combo buy.
I am really just looking to use the gun for squirrel and rabbit - no wing shooting so that is why I was asking about see thru mounts.

Mossberg makes a mount that that bolts through where the trigger is held in. You simplyknock out the 2 pins that hold the trigger in and lay the mount on the side of the gun and put the bolts through where the pins came out.
