I'm duck hunting this season and want some tips, please, any thing good I'll take.

Minihuntur, If this is a new adventure for you I would certainly recommend finding an experienced hunter in your area that you can wrangle an invitation to accompany on a hunt or two. If you have to, be forward about it and ask if you can accompany him and bring the lunch and thermos' of coffee and hot chocolate. Tell him you would be interested in either hunting from a blind or jump shooting, because you are "desperate" to be introduced to the sport. If he agrees, ask how you need to be prepared with clothing, gun, ammo, etc. Be sure to have sox and foot gear so that you don't freeze your feet. Be prepared.
Remember, you can't get refused if you don't ask!
Ask your sporting goods store for a recommendation of who might take on a new hunter.

I agree completely with that post. The best way to learn, is by going with somebody that has been doing it for a while. I learned from a buddy in law school how to waterfowl. He had been doing it since he was 5 years old, and new a ton about it. Plus, he introduced me to other people that were experienced waterfowlers. I also read everything I could find about the subject, but that is how I am. I am thinking about putting together a reef aquarium when we move into a single family home, and this will probably be 3 to 5 years down the road. I have already been reading everything I can find about it on the internet.

Another thing to think about, is the fact that there is no way any of us can provide you with all the stuff we know over this chatboard. Start waterfowling, and as you have specific questions, come back to this board and ask about them. I did that plenty 9 or 10 years ago.

You will enjoy that reef aquarium fabs... I set mine up in Feb this year, and I already want to go much bigger.. I will suggest that you start with at least 100gals.. I wish I had...

Right now, I have a 75 gallon fresh water tank with a 55 gallon refugium underneath it. My dad had a freshwater aquarium as long as I can remember. I got my first one, a 55 gallon one, 25 years ago, and it is that actual tank that I am using for a refugium. I cut a lot of lawns to buy that tank.

When we get a single family house, I already have my fish room planned out. I'm going to have a 590 gallon reef aquarium and a 590 gallon freshwater aquarium. Each will have 180 gallon refugiums.

If we build the house I want, the freshwater tank will be viewable from my office and the reef tank will be viewable from the bar/waiting area. All the plumbing, refugiums, etc. will be behind the scenes and easily accessible. I'm also going to put a separate A/C unit to that room and have a drain in the middle of the floor and a slop sink.

I always have big plans. LOL

Larry's right: go with an experienced waterfowler. You'll learn a lot more by watching and doing than just reading.

Guy down the road from me cut his corn today. Only about 30 acres. Was by this evening and saw about 10-12 ducks using it already Going to set a few dekes in there tomorrow evening and see what i can whack. Last year he had hundreds of pintails. Maybe...just maybe:D I love to shoot sprig.:D :D

Now you are making me jealous. I'm going to have to try and get out for anything I can pretty soon. All this work is driving me crazy.

Fabs, there is probably going to be about three corperate jets for sale soon. Now if they go cheap enough we could all go together and get one and use it as a hunt chat air taxi---and you and i could take a little trip to northwest wyoming and hunt pintails. i know of a guy out there who is gonna have some good duckin out that way.

Good duckin?? In Wyoming?? Actually I was out to a guys place the other day..Bought a load of powder from him and while I was there the ducks were flying over the house at 25 yds. Mostly Mallards and a few pintails. Landing in his field. Hunting it tomorrow ..yes!! I shot the corn field this AM. Only had about 20 ducks come..but I did shoot a couple of sprig. Nice tails too. Oh and a Baldpate. Lots of ducks on the rivers but the Reservoir has lots of water and ducks this year. The Valley north heading into Montana has LOADS of Canadas. I just don't have an inclination to hunt them.
On another note..I used some of the Remington Wingmaster HD shells. Just 1 1/4 oz jobs. Killed every duck I shot at DAID... DIA even the Baldpate. He was leaving the area in a hurry. I bought the darn things on sale for 20 bucks a box...and got a 15 buck per box rebate. Wish I could have bought a hundred boxes. I need another address

Any hunting is better than no hunting at all. I'm living vicariously through you guys and hoping that with all the work I'll be able to afford a farm in the near future.
