I'm looking at getting a laptop to take to Korea with me. I've been noticing Acer laptops seem to be a little less expensive but I've never really heard of them; can anyone tell me if they're an inexpensive computer or if they're just cheap? I won't be using it for anything but surfing the net and email; no games, movies, etc, just keeping in touch. Anyone used an Acer or know someone who has? Thanks for the input.

I'm on about my fourth laptop over 20 years or so, and can only say that of all those I've used, Toshiba seems to be the most bullet-proof. The drawback I've seen with mine is short battery life, but that's an issue mostly when I use it at the firing range and have t have the screen on maxi-bright - that sucks the battery down quick.

But otherwise, it's a truck. On socket power, it's all the computer I'd ever need, really.

I had a Toshiba... something went wrong with it, but they won't waranty it (said something spilled on the mainboard, which never occured) so I am not sure if we will get a new one to replace it.

Take a look at the ASUS laptops, my computer geek freind said this was the way to go over the Toshibas (which have dropping in quality according to him + expensive parts if something goes wrong)
