Have you seen this? A woman from Baltimore evidently killed two of her adopted daughters (9 and 11) and put them in a freezer, then took the freezer with her when she moved to an area near where my son lives. Another daughter, severely beaten escaped and got help. Im not good at posting a link but here it is:

Abuse is prevalent against those who can not defend themselves....seems to make the abuser more powerful in their own minds.
Correct me if I am wrong but I always thought adoptive caretakers had to go thru a myriad of scrutiny before being handed one of God's children?
Guess that has gone down the tubes also. I just cant fathom how some of these things happen to kids...as much as I am involved in the prevention of child abuse...I am still constantly amazed at what people can do to other people. Especially our most vulnerable.

Good to hear from you "Rubicon", hope life is treating you well......

Val, I am the product of state foster parents, sponsors, and homes and while I am sure that there are some loving and well-meaning adoptive parents out there, my own experiences have shown otherwise. I do not know if there have been changes made through the years but the majority of people that I have seen that embark upon these roles are in it with their hands out, looking for the $$$ from the state. The children placed into care are sadly a distant third or fourth (or much lower :(

I am sorry to hear that Steve. My heart aches when I hear of mistreated children. I have watched Florida's mismanagement of the foster-care program for years....the disdain I feel for that pathetic agency cant be expressed on this site. But I try and make noise every chance I get here.
But I thought the adoption process was more closely monitored than the foster-care program. I was also under the impression that adoption wasnt financed by any entity but the adoptive parents. Thats why this story was so surprising to me.

what gets me is this woman evidently got the children as a foster care provider- and later adopted them. The kids evidently were from DC ( where last year in a different case neighbors complained about an odor and when the police finally investigated they found decomposing bodies of a couple kids who had been killed by their mother and left in the house). Doesnt someone notice these kids are not in school? Doesnt some agency check on foster children/adopted children? And if a person has such a troubled evil mind they literally beat their kids to death, why in SAM HEALL are they adopting or providing care in the first place.? Todays news said they believe these kids have been dead for over a year and have been moved in the freezer more than once.

You said it...didn't people wonder where these kids went???Was everyone around this woman so oblivious, that not one person questioned where these children were...have we as a society gotten so wrapped up in our own lives, we dont see or question inconsistencies when it comes to our kids? It just leaves you shaking your head?????

Val, you know what it is and just did not say it;
Do not get involved.

I watched a shop-lifter in a grocery store one day and watched people look at this guy as he went around the bakery department eating food from packages with his girlfriend then he would put the packages back. I finally cought his attention and pointed to the the manager, he just gave me a blank look, until I walked over to the manager and pointed to the thief and his girlfriend. The thief then ran over two people running out of the store. No one did anything, they saw, walked by and just turned their eyes away to keep from being or getting involved.

A sorry comentary on us as a society. People are willing to or let others eat crap rather than get involved.
Best,
Ed
