May the hunting Gods smile down upon you. Gut Gluck!
What area are you hunting? I hunted West and North of Fairplay on Public land. Arrowed a nice Cow.
That country is a killer for us flatlanders though. Climbing those hills for a 68 year old guy is a B!tc# if you are not acclimated to that height. I was a huffin and a puffin for a few days.
The country was beautiful. Looking to the Southeast I could plainly see Pikes Peak and to the South and West Mount Silverheels.
Quite a story about Silverheels and the "Lady" it's named after. She must have been quite the gal. One of those instances that made America the Great place that it is.
Best wishes, Bill

Billy, we are going about 15 miles south of Stagecoach Res...
7 miles west of Gore Pass. Lot of Aspens....also about 2k lower
than when the snow ran me out last year. Gettin older and it's a little easier terrain! LOL....We'll have a good time, a kill is a bonus!

Dan,
Have a great time and best of luck. I drove throught that area the beginning of August. Down around the Flattops?
That sure is pretty country, I can almost smell the wet aspen as I type.
Be careful out there and let the elk be plentiful.

First few days were 80(at 8500 ft) saw a couple.. Last week it was quite a bit cooler. All I got to see were moose. Lotta snow up there now. Going back last of this week. Maybe then. Did see a griz.:D
left extra early today (4:30 am) and there were at least a dozen vehicle in the ditch. Several were upside down. I managed to get the rental Dodge SUV sideways myself !
Eastbound 70 was closed due to all the wrecks just east of the tunnel when I went by. We only got a dusting in Keystone - looks like the bulk went to the north ?
Just got home to 70 and sun !
good luck hunting !
found a link....but no pictures of all the wrecks

There was nothing to take pictures of but dead Lodge Poles, 2 cow elk and 2 Moose cows......Aspens were bare...no Elk bites n
no greens on the ground. Talked to a buddy that has acreage over west of Toponas.....first time in 20 years they came up dry!
If the ole goat hunts next year, it'll be down in the San Juan's!!!!!!!!!!!Had a good time and a good partner, the hunting was a bummer!!!

Gore Pass country could get a little white. Had to go from Rawlins to Laramie & back today. Good going over, winter on the way back. Blowing snow and miserable from Arlington to Wolcott Jct.
Light snow in Rawlins at 6700 ft. Gore Pass country is higher and likely to get snow.
I'll get lucky and see a hair after all ???
I'm in northern Vermont now and there are Moose Crossing and Bear Crossings signs every couple of miles.
Probably as close as I'll get without a trip to the zoo or and elk farm
