You can get a list of chances to view the Shuttle or Space Station as it flies over your town at this website: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/
On the best passes, the pair looks about the size and brightness of Jupiter. You can clearly follow it with just your eyes, but a pair of binos will bring out some shape and color as well. It moves too fast for tracking with a spotting scope.
