Too funny! Although they do need to be hunted a bit more than they currently are. Population numbers are getting a bit crazy in most areas they inhabit...

Turning this into a legitimate discussion, it has been postulated that the non-toxic shot regulations are the root cause of this.

The rationale is that steel shot was so ineffective that many hunters simply gave up waterfowling, especially for geese, which proved extra-tough to bag with non-lead shot. Because they were no longer so harassed, the geese tended to migrate less. Becoming resident, and without having their numbers trimmed, they overpopulated. So many geese in the air add to the chances that they'll be hit by planes.

Result: people are at greater risk of airline disaster because of non-toxic shot rules.

Opinions?

Sounds good to me. Let's run with that and try to get the rules on lead changed. While we're at it let's get the lead rule changed in Kalipornia...

Actually I like the "I invented Global warming" theory of Al Gore. Ya know..it was getting warmer so the geesers didn't have to go as far north as they did before. So they just stick around cities and towns so they can crap on golf courses and harrass the humans and not be at risk of getting shot.:D

Interesting theory though Rocky. Maybe we can find lots of politically correct things to cause stuff on.:D :p

Actually living in Md was something with the geese. When a kid..they migrated to North Carolina. as I got a bit older they started short stopping to the area I lived in. and by the late 70's the geese were what we called shortstopping to mqny areas farther north. Heck the geese are even staying in Montana north of me.

The front range of Colorado is full of "Honkers". It started by a flock brought to the Denver Federal Center for some type of research by the Fish & Wildlife. They spread out from there and were joined by wild geese that felt this wasn't a bad place to stay. Since the liberal locals won't allow hunting in very many areas, guess what! The geese have multiplied like flies. They are fun to see but a real pain in the butt at times. I remember swating them with my briefcase to keep from getting bit in the leg when you walked by them on fed-center grounds.
My brother-in-law moved to Arvada, CO, and laughes about all the prairie dogs in any undeveloped area, and the peoples concerns about the plague the fleas carry. But you don't dare shoot or displace one of the little buggers. He said some must be 5 pounders.

From what I have read, the "resident" geese in Maryland were put here by DNR. The geese were actually born in MD, so they had no instinct to migrate back to Canada every winter since their birthing place was Maryland. I think the entire ban on lead shot was a big pile of BS. Yes, maybe a couple of waterfowl might have died from lead poisoning, but was it really that big of a problem? As humans, I think we try to regulate way too much, and then end up doing way more harm than good.

The greatest cause for lack of hunting if probably lack of access to land. Trying to get permission is almost impossible nowadays. Such is life.

But it was only supposed to be the tip of the wedge, Fabs.

First, outlaw lead for this tiny slice of all shooters. Then gradually ban more and more until there are no legal kinds of ammo.

Hey, they're halfway there in California, and that's where they start all this stuff.

Rocky,

Nice photo, BUT they are not Muslim Geeze because I do not see a Quoran anyplace! LOL.

I agree, the lead ban is BS and merely a "First Step" to ban all ammo. As a bullet caster, I will soon become an outlaw if I fire up my lead pot.
