i was out in one of my favorite shooting spots today trying a new scope when a car with three soldiers (off duty, from 101 ABN) pulled up.

they noticed my AR and came over to talk.

they informed me they had their M4 carbines with them and proceeded to "suit up" and offered to let me handle the M4's, which i readily accepted. they also had numerous 20-30 rd mags and the AR's were of bushmaster manfacture...ACOG optics, bi-pods, magnifiers, forward mounted handles etc

i cautioned them that the mags and the bushmaster are "illegal" here in california as they had all the "evil" features so feared by legislators; they acknowledged they were aware.

i got the impression they were under the impression that since they are active military they are expemted from the law...even when off duty and not acting in a military/LE function.

is that fact or fiction? does anyone know for sure? are active military exempted from the california laws pertaining to AW's?

BTW...i was not impressed with the accuracy of the Bushmaster at close range...(unless that particular soldier was a very poor marksman)

Well, as some M-4's have three round burst fire and some have normal full auto fire, seems to me they were totally illegal in the state of Kalicommie anyway. I've shot both forms of the M-4 as well as a surpressed version. Very cool rifle, especially with surpressor. The ones I shot had a mildot type scope and shooting at 18" gongs at 500 meters they were right on the money. I'd sure hate to be out at 500 meters and have one of those guys shootin' at me. Full auto ownership is legal in Arizona. :D:cool: Now if I could only afford to feed one. :(
