View Full Version : Mid-Winter refit.

This time of year finds me refitting all my muzzle loaders. I take the arms, one at a time, and take them apart: I clean and lightly lube the locks, put some boiled linseed out on the stocks (inside and out) and wipe out the bores, again. I also put some Brasso on the brass furniture so the guns look nice in the horizonal gun rack in the den.
We are enjoying a February thaw right now, so some of those nice looking guns will get some black powder residue on them at the backyard bench. Oh well, I like cleaning guns.

I caught up on a few things during January and our weather here in NC is already starting to ease up some...its going to be above freezing at dawn this coming Saturday and I'll be setting up at the range as its getting light enough to see...first range trip since deer season in November...looking forward to getting out shooting regularly again.

I have been waiting for the weather to clear & find some time to hit the range... hopefully some of the snow has been cleared on the way to the target butts.

I finally got out last Saturday. Felt good. Still about a foot of snow on the ground but it was in the 30's. Just about everything has been stripped and put back together for now. I have a bow to recable and string but I wouldn't do that. Just waiting for it to warm up a little and it will be time to wet and line plus chase the Turkery's around. Been a tought winter for me. Every bone in my body aches. Need heat. Planning on heading to FL soon for a little R&R and following my bride around while she shops.
