270 win from remington model 770

HI everyone my question is i just bought myself a new rifle a 270 win am planning to go maybe for moose so will like 2 no if my rifle is ok are i should buy a bigger caliber :) thank you!!

Your .270 Winchester should be just fine for moose with well-placed heavy bullets at reasonable ranges. Opinions may vary, but the moose will never know the difference. Take care...

Welcome to HuntChat. I'll agree also, I'd use 150 grain TSX or A-Frames, reasonable range broadside in the boiler room. On the other hand, what better excuse than a new rifle, say 300WM, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

A .270 will definitely work on moose. And, as everyone says, shot placement is key. 150gr bullets would be preferred. I am partial to the Remington Core Lokts and the Federal Vital Shoks (both have 150gr options - I like the Nosler Partition on Fed's VS), but most bullets in that weight would be fine.

Welcome to the Forum; I see this is your first post.

You post you just bought a rifle and wondered it it would be ok for moose. There are moose and there are BIG moose and I wonder what was your criteria for choosing the .270? I have several .270s, many more .30-06s and a .35 Whelen. If I were going after moose, I would use a .270 if that was all I had.

First welcome aboard. I totally agree with what Adam said. I pessonally have several rifle chambered in rounds that I think are better for moose. BUT, if all I had was a .270 I would hunt moose with that. You would make Jack O`Connor if he were still alive. He said that was enough gun for any thing in North America. Is there anyone else around here old enough to rember Jack?

.270 is fine for moose, shot placement is what matters.

I'm old enough to remember when standard caliburs would kill an elk. Now they have become immune to a 30-06 and can only be killed with a Magnum.

I remember Jack, and Elmer and a lot others that sadly are no longer with us.:( However, there are a few good ones still writing including our own Rocky, and frankly John Barsness ain't too shabby either, although he doesn't come to this site.
IIRC, Jack took his first moose with a .270 using a hot loaded 130 gr. Nosler partition. Not what I would have picked but it worked for him. As I recall, he was hunting something else ((deer?) when he jumped the moose and shot it. He even opines IIRC, that he would have preferred something bigger but the
.270 was what was in his hands at the time.
