How do you think this happened?

I read in the news paper that a guy hunting, shot himself in the foot, when another hunter shot the hunter got startled and must of pulled the trigger when he jumped. this could have been prevented by:
1- the safety should have been ON
2- finger NOT on the trigger
3- keep the muzzle in a safe direction at all time even including your own body

I won't name any names but that guy must of not taken the hunter safety course oR he forgot the main safty mesaures!!??

OK the first question in the pool is messed.lol. what the real question is this:
DO YOU THINK THIS MAN DID NOT TAKE THE HNTER SAFETY COURSE?

Years ago 2 guys stopped at the house and ask to hunt rabbits. I gave them permission slips and ask if they would like for me to show them where they could find some, they say yes. So we started accrossed the corn field and I looked at one of them who was carring a single shot .410 and it looked like his hammer was back. Not believing it I looked closer and it still did so I ask his if his hammer was back, he said yes. I ask why and he said so he could get off a fast shot. This is when I told him if he didn`t have time to cock his gun he didn`t have time to get a shot off anyway and told them to get off my property and never come back, and ran for the house!

Two things that I have learned in my lifetime: you cannot legislate for morality or against stupidity. I have seen people do dumb things in my lifetime with gasoline, firearms, medical equipment, chemicals, tools, ect. You can read the manual, take the class, ect, but in the end, it all comes to what is between your ears.

But then ya just have to understand..accidents happen. Usually because we fail to adhere to the basics....and it doesn't matter if ya go through hunters safety or whatever(required in most states today). Then as Swift said...There IS stupid...and ya really can't fix it. Not even with Hunters Safety. And I knew a guy who was just a lightnin rod for all the bad stuff that can happen to a person. It just happened to him.. I have actually felt that way about myself...a time or two:D

As was already implied, some people just do not have common sense. I remember taking the hunter education/safety course in my state a few years back, and I remember having to watch a video with actor-hunters doing some pretty stupid things (like shooting from your truck at the side of the road; or shooting into a bush just because you saw movement, but didn't actually see what you were shooting at). The point of the video was to show what not to do when in the field - most of it was pretty stupid, if not unsafe.

I guess there are people who should master the fundamentals (e.g., leaving the safety on until ready to shoot) before heading afield. People need to be accountable for their own actions.

I dont think he even took a safety course. Man you NEVER EVER point a weapon at anyone, even if you think its unloaded. I just dont believe the stupidity of some people, Im shocked...

ive also told AND showed them that STUPID CAN GET YOU KILLED...
and you know what...after you give them some examples for a few times they
start to get it... suddenly their peers arent COOL...their STUPID....and dangerous..

one other thing it took me a lot of years to understand about stupid.. you cant tell stupid people their stupid, cause their toooo stupid to get it....

You can walk with a wooden leg and you can eat with false teeth but you can't see with a glass eye. This is one I use with my Kids when doing anything that requires safety glasses. MC
