I need some advise from you good people. I want to purchase a hand held GPS and was hoping for suggestions on what to get. I will be using this for trecking around the wilds of Pennsylvania. I have heard stories of some that lose service as soon as you get under the tree canopy, Bad graphics, ect. Any help is appriciated.

I own a Garmin eTrex Legend Cx and it's never let me down. I bought this particular model because it was recommend for Geocaching but it works great out on the trail. Color graphics, downloadable maps, easy on batteries, easy to use. I don't think you can go wrong with almost anything from Garmin. Not sure of the difference in the woods between Pa and Id but I've never lost my signal. Had a weak signal due to heavy cloud and tree cover but never lost it completely; always had at least 3 sats locked on.

I've got a Garmin etrix Venture Cx, nice unit. But I carry a Burton compass too, no batteries needed.

I just sold my Garmin 60C because the tree canopy killed the signal so bad, it was near useless.
I bought a Garmin 60CSX and it works in the same woods where the other failed.
