Oct 1st here. I am itching to go. We have been REAL dry here this year, so I am probably going to put the deer feeder up early to attract the little darlings. Not very sporting I know, but still a whole lot of fun with a 22.

Think most of us started out on hunting squirrels, and I'll never out grow it.

I agree with both of those statements popplecop.

I have taken half a dozen people squirrel hunting in the last few years who had never hunted in their life. All but 1 of them still hunt (albeit they mostly deer hunt)

Anybody can be a good deer hunter if they hone thier skills stalking squirrels, or sitting patiently waiting for them to show themselves.

I'm probably one of the few who never really target squirrels......would take them as a target of opportunity while hunting grouse or pheasants, but never really went after them. I plan on changing that this year (hopefully)...I've got the 10/22 sighted in and ready to go!;)

I think that you'll find that you really enjoy it.

yeah plus if you ever find a honey tree just once squirrel hunting you really will be hooked. I took my limit one time out of a pignut (bitter pecan) tree in just a few minutes. I mean you talk about a tree just dripping squirrels it was!

Here we can take 15 per day or have 25 in possession. yea uhhuh so lets see I go hunting two days in a row and get my lmit 15+15 = 25. . . . no wait that isnt right! WTHeck?

yeah we have stupid politicians too, but when you eat all the evidence what are they gonna do?

I guess that the Indiana red fox tree rats must be bigger than those texas tree rats cause the government only lets me take 5 a day per person.

lol, they might be or it might just be that everybody in the state has gone deer, duck, and hog crazy and there are almost no squirrel hunters left. The other day I was in a sporting goods store talking to a gentleman about squirrel hunting who was a squirrel hunter from way back. I had asked about a squirrel distress call, and the worker looked at me like I had a third eyeball. The old guy walked up and we started bsing about squirrel hunting. Spent a good hour talking to him. Just about everybody else in the store was looking at us like we were crazy.

Goodolboy, It's still very green here, so if I get out probably take a shotgun too. My excuse is that dove season is also open. Am looking forward to some good ol fried squirrel.

Yep. It will stay green here until early December at the earliest. I tend to shotgun it during the first few months, then switch to 22 after that.

Fried squirrel, homemade mashed taters, gravy and biscuits. Dog gone it now I'm hungry!
