Well....the words I wondering if I'd ever hear, were said tonight.

My little one joined the jrotc last year...had visions of VMI....(ain't gonna happen). Took jrotc again for her senior year.....made the rifle team....without ever showing the slightest interest before. She wants a bb gun so she can practice at home.

She signed up for the Navy.....gonna head to basic a month after schools out.

Tonight she hit me with..."I want to go hunting".

I'm kinda looking forward to this......I wanna put meat in the freezer before she hits the woods but I'm thinking first saturday of rifle season. I'll have to move my climber somewhere near the ladder stand so I can keep an eye on her....maybe see if our walkie-talkie's still work.

I'll set her up with my trusty 30-30.

I hope she makes a clean shot.

I never expected to hear it. I'll probably be more excited than she will be on that morning.

Has she fired the 30-30 yet? If not, maybe a little practice at the range is in order so she can get comfortable with the gun and the recoil should a second shot be needed. I've hunted with the same deer rifle for 15+ years now, but I still like getting in a little shooting before the season starts. Practice never hurts.

I was in the back yard a coupla weeks ago....checking my ML.....figured I'd let her shoot a real rifle. She put it on the paper, a couple inches high and right, at an even hundred yards.

I'll have to get some more ammo and let her squeeze off a few more.

Varedneck, never enough quality time for the little ones..even if they aren't so little anymore...just was in woods with my youngest daughter yesterday evening after she got off work...sat her in treestand, I gave her my xbow to use and I walked around try to push something to her..I did in fact but they must of x the hillside on way down to her..never passed..I had about a 10 yd shot at the one when I jump out of the bed..but she had my bow.lol..she does pretty good too with critters every year..deer/tky/fish etc...and even knows what to do with them after bagging them....still feel like the rest of you here at HC, quality time with they young ones...more fun than shooting critters yourself...good luck to her in ther future interests too...

I sure do wish you and your daughter the best luck. Sounds like she is growning up to be a fine young woman.

This August was two years sinch my hunting buddy died from cancer. I told him I would take his daughter out with me. She called last month and I told her we would go out on my farm. She is 18, so this would be a good outing for her, plus she will get to use her rifle, her dad built for her, well sorta, he got sick and I finished it and stamped his name under the barrel as the maker.

It is all about kids, male or female, out shooting and hunting.

My son was ROTC and it is a wonderful experience for them that opens doors..

Son and daughter were both ROTC in HS. Daughter was an USAF Sgt in Saudi during Desert Storm and son was a PJ sgt for 8 years now a CRO (Black Crow) Cpt in the USAF with many, many tours in A and I. The ROTC experiance is usually a very good start for a teen to have responsibility and direction. College ROTC is a great place for a young man or woman to earn a commission.

When my youngest was in High School she hit me with I want to go to West Point. I was actually speachless. It a great school and a excellent career however I'm glad she passed on it. I like her being a Mom of 3 kids better. I have better fringe benefits.
