I have a Ruger Mk II pistol that I would like to use on the trap line next year. I will be checking my traps while duck hunting, so water (sometimes DEEP water) is involved, and I will be working out of a small boat/canoe. I would like to put some type of lanyard on the pistol to help secure it....there is no 'ring' or loop like on some military models. Any suggestion as to how to secure the lanyard to the pistol? Anyone have any idea as to how long pistol lanyards usually are?
Thanks in advance........

back out the grip scews on both side and wrap some small diamenter nylon twine around the screw and then tighten them. It ain't pretty and it ain't something I would show anybody but it would work.

Mr. 16 gauge,

A pistol lanyard is a good thing for trapping or snowshoeing. Buckhunter has a good idea of strong nylon (fishing line ?) under the grips with a small loop at the rear for attaching the lanyard. I make my lanyards out of green nylon parachute cord. I find the best length for me is just long enough to use a Weaver two-hand hold of the pistol. I use a bowline for the loop around my neck and 3 half hitches on the lanyard loop.
