Did another small town auction today. Only bought a couple of handguns..A nice Stainless S&W in 44 Special and another Contender. But the really best buys were box lots of stuff. Got about enuff parts to make a nice 1911 into a 38 Super. Got 4 or 5 bbls and one is a new Clark bbl. One of the neatest buys was some New RCBS Basic 45 cases x 3 1/4 inch...got 4 boxes as well as some new Bertram 45 basic cases 2.4 inches long and a hundred new 12 ga BELL brass cases..and a few old brass cases. In the box was an old round for 45-70 dated 6-81(1881) and it is one of the inside primed types. From the looks of it it is the Carbine loading. Spent way too much but got lots of really neat stuff. Even got 2 -4 oz bottles of Sperm Whale oil. Haven't been able to get that since the 1960s. One of the best gun oils you could ever get. Got dies brass bullets powder high end bullet moulds and all kinds of stuff. Even got a nice little Craftsman metal lathe with most of the trimmings. Just gotta love auctions and yard sales. Speaking of yard sales...bought a nice NM Ruger Blackhawk 357 and an Eddystone Enfield Friday afternoon for very good prices. The 1917 has been sporterized though. Looks pretty good though

Skeet, you to come accross some good finds. Went to a gun show yesterday and bought exactly nothing. Did not even see anything to grab my interest, Of all the knives there never saw one made in the USA, just China.

I do come up with some really good finds but not always what I want. Still looking for a S&W M-57 in 41 Mag. I actually went to this auction to buy a Winchester M-70(pre 64) rebored and chambered in 338-06 AI. It was done by Ackley himself. Even found the invoice from ol P.O. I went to 700 bucks on it but let it go. There was also a Pre 64 rechambered by P.O. from 243 to 244 AI. I let it go too. The one thing I should have bought but let go for 250 bucks was a Pre 64 Winchester action. It was however a Magnum action. Little bit of rust but had the floorplate etc. Well duh... I still should have bought it. There was also a Siamese Mauser there that was done up in 45-90. That was why the guy had the basic brass I think. That darn stuff is worth more than 3 bucks a round now. And the Sperm oil..it is just fine and worth quite a bit. The last I had came from Russia. A friend went visiting and being one of the Diplomatic Blue Passport type brought me back 8 ounces(approx) in 1980 or so. Before that I bought Hy tran Hyd oil made for International tractors. It was just Sperm oil. With a few additives. So if you all find any old Intl tractor Hy Tran oilNot the HTII)..buy it. Great gun oil. But it hasn't been made since the later 60's. Now to make the list a little longer. In the box lots found a Hoch 45 cal 500 gr bullet mould NIB and a New 4 cavity SAECO 44 cal mould as well as a Hensley & Gibbs 357 4 cavity would with handles. Got a nice Redfield Receiver sight for I think either a Springfield or Mauser. Prob a Mauser..And 'nuff loading manuals and books for the next 3 years of reading.
Oh and I talked to one of the principals of the Old Ballard Rifle Company here in Cody(Closed now) and he is going to redo the Old Winchester Low Wall action I bought for 25 bucks to 32 H&R Mag. That way I can even shoot 32 Long and short in it.. I thunk about 327 Mag but don't know if the action can handle that much pressure. Gotta talk to Rocky about that I think.

that action in 32 H&R would be a bueatiful thing. That 500 grain 45 mould sounds like just the ticket for a good 45-70 heavy round. Always loved them flyin sledgehammers. You can eat the deer meat right up to the hole.

Did not even see anything to grab my interest, Of all the knives there never saw one made in the USA, just China.
Wasn't even one knife at this auction. I bought an ol Kabar in a box of stuff at an auction a month or so back. Not in bad shape but the sheath was shot. A knife makin friend took it home and made me a nice sheath for it. Not real keen about the blade on it. Has an upswept point on it...but it is an older Kabar...and I only paid 5 bucks for the whole box. At the last gun show I traded a box of Wolf .223 for an old Western sheath knife. Not perfect but the ammo only cost me 4.50. Will try to post a picture of some of this stuff:cool:

The knives in the picture are the ones I talked about in the last post. The S&W is the 44 Spec I picked up at the ausction on Saturday. Gun has been shot ..but not very much It is a model 696 and has the firing pin on the hammer..not like the newer guns. The small knife in the picture is a ceramic bladed Boker. Spensive little buggers but got it at a yard sale a year or two back. 3 bucks. They say they never need sharpening..but it ain't so. I was advised they need to be sent back to the maker to get sharpened.. Doubt if is it is worth doing.

The moulds pictured are the H&G 4 cavity with handles number 236GC the other 4 cavity is an as new SAECO number 439 mould which makes a 430 bullet for the 44 mag The Single mould with the big Cavity is a Hoch Nose pour mould number 459 505 for the big boomers like the 45 Sharps or 45-70s what ever. The brass mould is a custom mould by a Slovakian maker. It is a work of art. and casts 431 hollow point bullets of about 255 gr. It came with 3 different sets of pins for the hollow point. The first three moulds I got at the auction on Saturday. The Contender was also bought at the auction and is in 45 Colt/410. I have many bbls for those Contenders and the bbl on the gun is going to be sold as I already have one in 14 in. I just can't not buy a nice Contender
