I prefer Flinters to Percussion muzzleloaders. I have far too many of both on establishment and shoot them all year around. The Caplocks are very reliable and when hunting bears and such like, I would take my .54 Renegade Percussion with a Maxi ahead of 100 grains of 2F Goex.
For targets and deer, I prefer the flinters. A .50 Smoothbore allows me to use patched Ball or #6 shot for October hunting season in Pennsylvania. This is "Big Woods" country and a smoothbore effective to 75 yards is okay.
