German was almost our official language……….NOT!

In class today, I heard one of our ‘knowledgeable’ instructors (a GS-11)
say the age old WRONG MYTH!
And it makes me angry-angry-angry!
I am sick and tired of this MYTH!
No such bill vote was ever purposed for this!

The only vote over anything German was, In January and February 1795, to officially publish a ‘Version’ of the US Constitution in the German language, for the immigrants from Austria, and the German lands. Heck there was not even a Germany (as we know it today) at that time.

It was NOT to make the official language of the US the German language.

PLEASE forward the heck out of this. I heard it too many times, repeated by supposedly intelligent people, AND IT MAKING MR MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.

Thanks, Jon (still angry).

jon,

Was ist mit dir los? Ich mag Deutsch, aber est ist nicht leicht fur mich. (What is the problem? I like German, but it is not easy for me.)

Actually, I understand the question of our official language between English and German was discussed at the Constitutional Convention.

Remember George III was a German prince. Many guys PREFER German music, food, women and BEER! Macht viel spass! (Eat, drink and be merry.)

Adam, Deutsch ist nicht das Problem. Richtigkeit, ist die Problem!

This guy started off; "Did you know it is a fact........blah. blah"

It took me just a few minutes, a few years ago, to find this on the Library of Congress archives on-line. And the internet seems to be getting better every day.

But I guess since it was a FACT, he didn't need to research it........what a Dork!
