Shotshell Gauge Adapters

Has anyone ever used any shotshell gauge adapters like this...

If so, do they work well? Any problems?

I am thinking if buying a few to get my daughters up and running on shooting clay. I would use the .410 to 12 ga. adapters at first, upgrade to 20 ga. to 12 ga. later, and so on. If they want to continue shooting, I'll eventually get them their own shotguns.

Any input on these adapters would be appreciated. Thanks.

Never tried either of the two you mentioned. I did, however, get a Savage 20 ga. "FOURTENNER" for my son to use in his Savage model 24 combo gun until he got big enough to shoot light charge 20 ga. shells. The "FOURTENNER" worked very well and he still uses it with 3" shells from time to time on squirrels. If I recall, they originally came in both 12 and 20 ga. insert sizes. I would highly endorse them. If you wanted one though I would imagine they would be extremely hard to find now other than at maybe gun shows. To my knowledge, they haven't made those things in years.

Duffy... I have used those type adapters...and although they work the don't work well. You have to take tha adapter out every time you shoot. It is a pain and the 410 doesn't always sound right..the 20s are better.. DH is on the right track..but I would try ti find a 410er adapter..Look on ebay..They do work quite well. They were made in 12/410 16/410 and of course 20/410 I had a couple I sold not long ago.. a 12 and a 20 You would be more than pleased with one of them..not so with the adapters IMHO

Yep, the adaptors suck. I tried them out quite a while ago in .410 out of a 12 gauge and they were horrible.

I just save my SS checks and buy another shotgun in whatever gauge that's smaller. Problem is that one winds up with a lot of shotguns of various types and makers, but I enjoy the problem. Am missing a 32 gauge anyone got one to get rid of?

Had a 32 one time..Sold it..Ammo was a problem..just too expensive and no loading tools or components Heck the 410 shoots about as well With a bit of practice. And the 28 is much better. And you can reload both of 'em easily

I shoot a 24 ga. and love it, like I said don't need a 32, but I don't have one in a nice little sxs. It would round out my collection of SxSs.

Had onea them once too. The 28 was much easier to find ammo for and shot as well...and it was one I really didn't NEED Need has very little to do with things but finding ammo and no reloading stuff just made it unnecessay. Fiocchi brought in ammo and I knew the importer at the time..still didn't need the guns. Even at distributor cost they were too expensive. I did get a bunch of 9mm Rimfire shotshell ammo though.. They are the only ones that still(or they did) load that round. It is a really neat gun for shooting rats either in the barn or at the dump(sadly they do not allow that any longer ie dump shootin) Oh and another thing I don't need is another SXS..Have 5 or 6 and that is almost too many by twice

My experience is much better.

I am very pleased with my set of GAUGE MATE's! I use a set to shoot 12 gauge reloads in an old damascus barreled BAKER SxS. Works GREAT!

Someone said they had trouble removing the fired shells. I use a Dremel tool to grind a small half-circle in the rim of the stainless steel GAUGEMATE that allows easy removal of the fired shotshell, WITHOUT removing the adapter.
