Today I casted about 1,000 bullets on a lovely Autumn afternoon here on the farm. I recalled back to the Autumn of 1975 when I resided in New Hampshire. I set up two sawhorses and a 4' X 8' sheet of plywood in my driveway on a Sunday afternoon and used my Coleman stove and lead pot to make bullets. NH is the First in the Nation for Presenditial votes and we had folks coming by everyday hawking various candidates.

About 2:00 p.m. a fellow walked down my side of Wheeler Avenue while a woman was on the other side of the street knocking on doors and handing out literature. The fellow was hawking for Jimmy Carter and had a Southern drawl. He looked at my set up and asked me what I was doing. I told him, "casting bullets." He never saw the process before and asked, "I assume you have the necessary license and permit for this?" I asked, "What permits?" He said, "Well, there are hundreds of bullets there on your table and that COULD be hundreds of dead people. The government needs to know who is making bullets."

I told him, "that is hundreds of holes in paper targets and the government has no damned right to know who casts bullets!" He replied, "But you could kill hundreds of people with those bullets." I said, "Why not have the government arrest me for rape because I have the EQUIPMENT for that as well." He just shook his head and walked on.

The Liberals fondly believe IF they pass enough laws (Prior Restraints) they will make the world safe. Us Conservatives believe in Subsequent Punishments for the wrongdoers and leave the majority alone!

Hate to say it but I is a democrap..of the worst kind(to that party I mean). I is a Southern Democrap..I am slightly to the right of ol Ghengis Khan in my ideas. Jiminy Carter was(ansd still is) an idiot. How anybody coulda voted for him is beyond me..and the idiot we have in the place now is even worse. Tax and SPEND without a clue for what he(we)is spending the money. Speakin of bullet moulds..I just picked up an old Cramer 5 hole 38 wadcutter mould.. What a piece of American Iron!! In good shape and if I think I can hold it up there fer a bit may cast a few boolits with it. Take fer ever to get it up to casting temp I think:D Breakin out the shotmaker next week. Coolin off 'nuff to melt lead a bit

Used to vote primarily republican in most elections....I no longer do so after a bad experience several years ago. Voted 'party line' and got one bad rep who was supposedly a republican, but voted antigun, antihunting, voted to raise taxes, voted for every social program that came down the pike, ect.
The problem I have with both parties is that they feel that they have more loyalty to their respective parties than they do to their constituents. I now vote for the candidates that most likely represent my feelings, mores, and beliefs, and have voted libertarian in the last several elections because of this.....

Having said that: Adam, your lucky that the canvaser didn't try and have the EPA shut down your casting session due to all the 'toxic lead' fumes you were spewing in the neighborhood.....gun control and antihunting folks are now trying the 'back door' approach and using other agencies (such as the EPA) to do the dirty work that they haven't been able to get done. Anyone who doubts this just needs to look at the lead bullet ban in California and the recent attempt by a handful to get ALL lead bullets banned.

....and let's not forget:
The wonderful "Assault weapons ban" that was brought to us by the Clinton administration (and supported by George Bush Sr, a republican); that ban went so far as to prevent gang bangers from getting assault rifles and shooting each other......Oh, wait...no, it didn't!

...and the attempt by the Clinton administration to put "taggants' in gun powder so that if someone blew up a building, they could track down who it was (but there was no attempt to put taggants in fuel oil or ammonium nitrate).

....and the idiotic New Jersey senator that proposed banning 50 caliber and larger muzzleloaders because she heard some where that a 50 caliber rifle could be used as a 'sniper rifle' and that these '50 calibers' were dangerous (aren't all guns potentially dangerous?) and our "308 caliber" sniper rifles (same as the military uses....you and I probably call 'em "deer rifles") aren't as dangerous as those damn "50 calibers"!

....Or the "enlightened" report in the S.E. Michigan area who made the statement about the "semiautomatic revolver" that was used in a crime!

I truly feel that the world is full of idiots anymore.....I gotta work with a lot of them every day, and as I get older I am tired of suffering fools, so I speak out in the break room when these topics come up, even though it's not "politically correct". Too many folks are ready to sign a petition today to "do the right thing" without having A CLUE to what they are signing or what the potential consequences might be, and that's the problem. If you don't believe this, go to youtube and look up "Penn & Teller's DiHydrogen Monoxide ban". I think you will be amazed......I know I was!

BTW: I did a few casting sessions last week myself! Casted up a bunch of SWC for the .357 magnums and some 30 cal FPs for my .30/30.....and now the weather has turned hot & humid again!

Another thing I really like..The idiots who go around saying we need a law for this or a law for that..And try to get one passed..Then someone comes up with "we need a law" that affects the first idiot in some way. And so on ad nauseum. We don't need more laws. Good grief. We have 'nuff laws. We have immigration laws that the gummit won't even enforce..then when a state tries to enforce the same laws they are taken to court and accused of profiling etc etc etc. What we really need to do is find a way to get rid of some of the ridiculous laws that we have on the books.

As to casting weather..ain't any hot or humid here in Wy..I've been loading 20 ga shells on the old Dillon SL900. Got 2 five gallon buckets loaded so far. I have a LOT of shotshell primers to use up. Old White box Winchesters and some 97 Rems. Maybe another 2000 to use fore they go bad.

Yeah we don't need more laws we need more people with common sense. I vote for the man always not the party. In fact what we need is fewer laws. If it was legal to take a rapist out and hang him, or take a wifebeater behind the barn and show him what it feels like the world would be a much better place. I don't need the government to protect me and mine, I just need them to leave us alone.

To quote the new Robin Hood movie (Which I liked) "...laws of the land enslave the people to a king who demands loyalty but offers nothing in return..."

Yep and the way it is now we have the elected aristocracy in Congress. We NEED term limits big time. 2 terms..no more..not even on the local level.

Right now I would settle for a half term for the current "pres" he has done more than enough damage for 9 other Presidents.

I'm truly astounded at the crass stupidity that takes place on legislative levels...

Those idiots who wail, "There ought to be a law...!" are usually unaware there likely IS. We have multiple laws on the books covering everything imaginable. Any new law is to serve one or more of three basic functions.....

1) Show that the 'lawmaker' in question is actually 'doing something'......

2) Exert CONTROL over the populace.

3) Extort more tax monies from the populace.

That is IT.

The only 'Laws" we actually need are those found in The Constitution, The Bill of Rights and the Ten Commandments.

Anything else is Liberal fluff........
