my 7mm AM brass is shot, sent new cases to APS for forming but not sure it'll get here in time.
I did work up a load for the 6.5 that shows promise but not sure if I'll have enough free time to confirm the drops to deer hunt with it.
This won't happen again!

Why not form your own brass???????????? From 7 mm to 6.5 mm is very simple. Run the 7mm brass through your seating die and then your FL die and you have 6.5 brass ready to load. Your case necks will thicken when sizeing down but you will have no trouble with that unless you have a tight necked chamber.

the 6.5 brass are easy catfish, its a 6.5 gibbs, so a 270 necked to .264 and fireformed, the 7mm AM brass starts with a 338 lapua mag, run through a die with 5 different bushings, full length size, load with 100 gr of powder, and fireform.
so 85.00 bucks saves me 5 hours of labor, (necking down, sizing, loading and fireforming) 1.3# of powder, 100 primers, 100 bullets, and 1/10th of the life of the barrel.
cases are 1.92 ea, all said and done they are just over 3 bucks ea. including shipping but man what performance!

140 berger/62.7 gr retumbo/210's, 3160 fps
3 shots at 480 yards, not bad for the first group I've fired since last winter and a new load

RR, do you typically shoot Retumbo in that case with the 140? What barrel did Ray put on it for you?

just started using retumbo big, a guy from potomac md turned me on to it, he had excellant results with a 243 and 105 gr, its a kreiger 8 twist, shoots well but its slow since its cut rifled.

Was just wondering. My barrel seems a little slower than most other guys. I can get a little higher velocity with H4831sc in my 6.5x284 than what I can with H1000 but it just won't shoot as tight. I would have figured you were shooting H1000 in that case as well.

tried H-1000 big, couldn't get much velocity without casehead expansion becoming excessive. the retumbo is doing well, one group was miraculous but I'm writing it off as a fluke, no way do I shoot that well, never have and am sure never will again. hate to even post a pic and give ya the story, cause I wouldn't believe it, don't expect anybody else to either.

I normaly do but this was just too unbelievable.I'm talking a 3 shot group in the range of about .04moa at 750 yards. I'm not claimin credit, it just happened.
the other rifle was shot also and got the usual 3" group at 750, so wasn't havin that good of a day.
