I'm going to start stuffing the cookie jar a bit every pay day, because I want.....er.....ah.....need, yes need a .223
I have narrowed it down to a CZ 527, Savage 10PF, both 24" heavy barrels.
I like Savage a lot, but CZ does not suck. But would either shoot 5.56? I always seem to find low priced 5.56 in bulk, good (and cheap) for farting around at the range.
Advise please, thanks in advance, Jon.

I know I like my savage... I can't answer if the 5.56 will work or not as I have never tried it.
I did find my is finiky about what it gets for loads... I am still playing to get it shooting how I want. Mine is the 10FP.

my advice, get the tikka varminter, cause its an 8 twist heavy barrel, I have 223's in 8,9,10, and 12 twists and hands down I like the 8 best. about any bolt action will handle the 556, but 223 mostly shoots best, I shoot ultramax reman 55 gr spt's in all my 223's (5) and it really does well.

I found a mint used Winchester Lightweight Model 70 in .223 and have taken a lot of groundhogs with it. I would look at the used gun racks and see what is available, handles well and has a decent price. The link below came from another site and states that the 5.56mm and .223 are not the same. It is possible to shoot .223 ammo in a 5.56mm. However, there are warnings about shooting 5.56mm in a .223 caliber rifle. I have a pair of Colt ARs that are marked .223 on the receiver and 5.56mm on the barrel so they can handle both rounds. Hope this helps. All the best...

I have a CZ 527 and a Savage 110 both in .204. Both have the lite weight barrels and both shoot very well, but the CZ does edge out the Savage for accuracy. The CZ also comes with a single set trigger that is the best trigger in any factory gun, but the Savage accutrigger is not a bad trigger eather. Both are great gun and you will be happy with eather. The only real advantage the Savage has is that you can change barrel on it so easily which don`t mean alot to most shooter, but I like to play around.
