Man with gun worked at golf course, officer involved will be criminally investigated
There are accusations of police brutality in the arrest of a man in Kelowna on Friday.
It started with a man firing a shotgun on the grounds of the Harvest Golf Course just after 10 am.
Witnesses report hearing two shots.
He then left in a pick-up truck.
A suspect was taken down minutes later by police near the intersection of KLO Road and Pandosy.
Witnesses tell CHBC News that they are shocked by the level of force used by police to arrest the suspect, who was kicked in the head by a police appear even though he appeared to be compliant.
They add he was bleeding heavily from the face and left a pool of blood on the ground.
RCMP say the officer involved is being criminally investigated for assault causing bodily harm.
A decision is expected next week on whether the officer will be suspended with or without pay.
Police did recover a firearm from the suspect's truck.
The suspect is currently on disability leave from the Harvest Golf Course.
He suffered a brain injury after a motorcycle accident last summer.
Among his duties is using a shotgun to scare geese away from the course.
