Yesterday, I acquired a single barrel 12 GA tube for the T/C Hawken or Renegade. The price was right and now the tube resides on a caplock .50 T/C Hawken. My other shotgun is a .50 caliber smoothbore barrel on a T/C flintlock. (about 28 gauge).

I test fired the Toledo 12 gauge barrel on the .54 Renegade caplock and the Hawken .50 caplock and it was great. I tried fiber wads, card wads and plastic AA wads with much good data. Interestingly, across the valley, about 400 yards away was a strutting gobbler and 12 hens in the pasture as I tested shot loads for our Spring Gobbler season which opens April 30.

I use 75 grains of 2F Goex, and the charger load of #6 shot. That is about a 2 3/4-1 1/8-#6, or a 35 yard BP turkey load. The turkeys are nearby and now I need to practice my calling technique.

Adam,

If you need someone to help call ya in a bird, just give me a shout! I'm sure I'll be in your area come turkey season. I've killed enough of those critters, I'm sure I have a few tricks up my sleeve. I enjoy the callin' more than the killin', and nothing is better than bringing a bird in for a friend.

Petey,

I NEED all the Calling Help I can get! Come on by and help me bag my first turkey. Please bring in my FIRST bird and as a Seminarian, I will listen to my FIRST Confession. Being retired, I will have all day for Listening. Be well, my friend.

Adam, don't know if the Good Lord will help with your turkey hunting or not. That being said I'll put in a good word for you.

I shall get in touch with you then. I have an emerg. that requires me to make that 3 hr trip tomorrow as a matter of fact! The day will be busy on location, but if I get done early I'll stop out at the ranch. I'll get in touch with you before season to make a game plan. I've called in a lot of first time birds for people and it sure is a hoot to watch them get hooked on it.

Petey,

I will be busy in the morning, but free all afternoon tomorrow. Come on by the ranch. Lori dog and I will be in the backyard at the shooting bench testing turkey loads in the muskets. Be well.

Adam,

How's the hunt going? I'll be out Tuesday 5/10 to conduct some interviews, so we could maybe try out Wednesday if you still have a tag available?

Thanks
Petey

Petey,

I have not seen or heard a turkey since the season opened. It has been raining almost everyday for a month. I will be around next week. The forcast is for sun on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lets giver her a go then. Birds have been pretty talkative here the last couple days. Called in quite a few on Sat for my 8 yr old. Unfortunately we got screwed up twice by other hunters (on private ground!). Typical PA turkey hunting....people have no respect for other hunters

Adam;
Hope you and Petey are successful....moreso than me! Wish popplecop would have put in a good word for me, too!:( Birds would answer my yelps, but wouldn't come in....at one point I had 3 different gobblers responding to my call, but none would come in.:( I did, however, find a few spots that look interesting for setting steel come fall.

Plan on working on a load for my trade musket this summer, if I can find the time.

BTW, Popplecop....just kidding!;)
