Anybody have any experience building polling decks or using them on jon boats? I wasn't thinking about building a tall tall one. Just one about eight inches to a foot above the transom. Some places the river (during droughts like we have going on now) gets so low that you can get the boat across a sandbar, but not a motor or trolling motor.
Whatcha think?

Let me clarify a minute. I just need a spot big enough to sit my big rump or stand on, and I need to be able to clear the outboard (which I don't have yet) with it tilted in.

By the way I am not dead set on putting a poling deck (or platform) on my boat. I was just considering it. In a pinch I could probably pole standing on the read seat or the front of the boat.

Not quite sure what 'polling deck' is (I have an idea), but I've always just stood on the rear seat and used my push pole with my Johnboat while duck hunting......I've also used it just standing in the middle of my 13 ft rowboat (for stability) and poling from there using pole on the sides....forward movement isn't as great as poling from the back, but it isn't as bad as you might think.
Maybe try it just standing on the rear seat and see how it works for yah?

Like this. I am probably going to try just the back seat first, but the gears are turning and the possibilities got my little brain churning like a ducks feet under water.
Of course this example is more than a bit taller than what I am wanting to do.
