Hyper velocity .22 LR cartridges?

What are your experiences with the hyper velocity (Federal Spitfire, Remington Yellow Jacket & Viper ammuntion, CCI Stinger, Winchester Xpiditer (if it's even still made), ect, ect) .22 LR ammuntion?
I tried some of them years ago....the .22 Stinger cases were too long for my semiautos (Ruger standard MkII & Remington Nylon 66) and the empty cases would jam the gun; accuracy was not all that great, and the one rabbit I did shoot with the stuff (yellow jackets) was mostly a big chunk of blood shot meat.

Now, MI law requires that night hunting for predators (fox & coyote) be done with either a shotgun or a rimfire rifle.....I have a .22 magnum for said purpose, but my friend has only a 10/22, and isn't interested in buying a .22 magnum. Have any of you used this ammo for said purposes (fox & yote)? To be fair, it's been 25+ years since I tried them.

Yeah I would vote shotgun team. My experience with the hyper velocities (including the velocitors) is that they aren't nearly as accurate in the same gun. I 100% believe this doesn't have to do with inferior ammo, but with rate of twist issues in the barrels. No big worry at 25 yards, but at 50-100 yards its a real problem IMHO.

For fox being called in at night I'd use CCIs Small Game Bullet 22 rfs. very accurate in most of my 22 rifles. For the yotes I wouldn't reccomend anything under the .22 mag.

If I remember right most of the hype Vel 22 I tried years ago just would not shoot well. If I remember right the groups were 3 to 4 MOA at 50 yards. I use Win Power Points and have managed to put down a small yote with it. Head shots only.

I don't shoot them much anymore, but my Mosberg 341 and Ruger MkI shot them pretty good. I mostly use fed 510b's from Wal-mart, or fed bulk in all my .22's I think .22 is fine for fox out to 75 yds or so, but yotes need at least .22 mag, and I have not been satisfied in how fast they go down with the mag.

When I get a "new" 22rf I usually get about 10-12 different kinds of ammo and head to the range. Shoot some 5 shot groups and see what ammo does the best for accuracy. I only do this with guns that I will be shooting when I need good accuracy. Sometimes what shoots best will sirprise you. In my Wiinchester 52, standard velocity ammo does the best for accuracy. In my Ruger 77/22, it is Stingers, Winchester Power Points, and Federals. I usually shoot the Winchesters due to price difference and little group size difference.

I do the same thing....as a matter of fact, when I am at the gun shop/sporting goods store, and see a brand I haven't tried before, I'll pick up a box. When I get 4-5 boxes of different types, I'll take them to the range and try them in all my rimfires.
....and your right; you may very well be surprised! I bought some relatively expensive standard velocity target rounds (Eley), and they shot patterns, not groups, out of all my rifles. I've done the best with the less expensive "promo" stuff, usually plated bullets do better than none. Out of my firearms, CCI minimag and Federal "American Eagle" rounds have been the most consistant as far as accuracy across the board, so I've stocked up on them.

I find the unplated bullets (fed 510b) seem to have a nice lube on them. The bulk feds are plated. Both have identical velocities, but the unplated seem to group better, in most of my guns. And the 510b is still $1.47 per 50 at wal mart. I also shoot blazers, with mixed results. I picked up a couple of bulk boxes because a lot of folks seem to like them. they're ok but feds are better. I need to buy some Wolf mt, I was very impressed with them in my 10-22.
