Sunday morning at 8:00 AM while mowing I was praying, what else do you do on your tractor on Sunday?

In this case though, I was praying what I was seeing over my hood down the hill was not what I knew I was seeing. It looked like a medium sized black dog coming around the corner of my pond and heading across my dam towards me at just under 1/4 mile distance. As I got closer it was obvious that in fact it was what I did not want to see, is was the first ever wild hog on my farm.

By 8:30 the 75 pound sow was laying on the bank of the pond, shot through the shoulders by my Mini-14. I carry my Mini on my tractor in a Buggies Unlimited floor shoe stock holder and a side support Velcro strapped U shaped forearm holder. The 53gr Sierra over the load of IMR 4198 had done its job.

The dam is on Highway 85 going north to the AL border and I have known for two years they guys hunting across 85 have been seeing hog sign and I knew it was just a matter of time. As a matter of fact I bought a 6.5 Grendel upper for my AR in Tulsa in April and ordered my suppressor for it two weeks ago so I could pop piggies at night without blowing the neighbors out of their beds across the Highway. It is legal to shoot hogs at night with a suppressor in FL. So now we go night vision scope shopping. By the time we get the can in and the ATF paperwork finished we will be ready to stack them up.

Oh, our wild pig critters are said by the F&G folks to carry very nasty diseases, like anthrax and e coli plus all manner of parasites and some of this will not make you sick it will make you dead. So it is fertilizer not pork chops for those I see on my place. I am not going to take a chance and it is no longer legal for a meat processor in FL to process a wild hog without a Vet certification of health on the pig.

I was in Tenn last week and for the first time I saw a lot of Amadillo'w (sp). I alway thought they were in Texas but they are moving north also.

Hogs are fun to shoot but can make life miserable. Just shoot straight.

Yep, was a time when you did not see an Armo-dildo anywhere around here either. Now some of my buddies have handguns with night sights, built just to shoot dildos.
