I am considering a buy on a night vision scope. I am thinking of putting it on a .44 mag single shot rifle vs. 30.06 semi-auto. Any advice on products, etc?? I am new to this type of product.

Well really can't hunt here after dark anyway so have absolutely no use for night vision..unless I was hunting the most dangerous game. Things keep going the way they are and we all may need night vision

I have a first gen rifle scope and thied gen gogles. I can tell you that the gen 3 stuff is far better than the gen 1 stuff. I went from a gen 1 rifle scope to the gogles for improve nite vision and went with the gogles instead of the rifle scope for 2 reasons. 1 You have to hold your rifle up to look around and it getts pretty heave after a while. 2 If your looking at a person your also pointing your gun at them. I now use the gogles and a lazer on the rifle. If you go this way DO NOT get a green lazer, they are just to bright and look like a spot light instead of an aim point.

I used a Starlight scope in the 70's. Its cave man like in compariion to todays thermo imaging scopes of today.

I have a friend with the thermo imaging. He can see a squirrel inside a tree, but I don`t have $ 30,000 to buy one.

The thermal vision is pretty nice. That is what we used on the hog hunt down in GA with jagerpro. You can get them now for around 13-15K. I still don't have near that kind of money. I am looking for something under a grand.

For under $ 1,000 you are definately not going to get the better stuff unless you can find a guy in need of some cash. The less expencive stuff will impress you untill you see the top end stuff. I would recomand the best goggles you can afford and go with red lazers on you rifles for sights. Even with the gen 1 stuff you`ll see a red lazer farther than your rifle will shot relaiblely. If you were close I would show you the difference so you could see what you like best.

I've got a good friend who uses a gen III NV scope for coyotes after dark. Got a little trigger time with that one a few weeks ago, and target acquisition was impressive even at longer distances. If you're wanting to keep it cheap, there are a TON of NV scopes on Cabelas website. You should be able to track down something there.
