The haying is all done; we put in the barn 750 square bales and made 70 round bales that are at the field edge. Our current drought has held back the gardens and not much weeding is needed.

Old dawg and I tuned up all 7 muzzleloaders over the weekend. Three are caplocks and four are flinters. I pulled off each lock and cleaned them and lightly oiled them all and reinstalled them. While the locks and barrels were off, I put a light coat of boiled linseed oil in and out on each stock.

I got an RCBS chronograph last Christmas and now have time to set it up in the backyard and see what roundball and maxis do out of the .45, .50 and .54 arms. The October muzzleloader season is only two months away.

On Saturday August 20, 2011 we will have our annual Tioga Youth Field Day. It will be my 14th year on the blackpowder site where the 150 kids come by each of 10 stations in groups of 15 kids, each accompanied by an adult. We have them shoot .50 caliber muzzleloaders at balloon targets 35 yards away. That marks the end of Summer for me. We encourage the adults to participate in the ML shooting.

I pulled mine apart a couple of weeks ago and did the annual PM thing. I then took her out to the range and put about 20 shots thru her. The scope is all set. The load is all set. Cleaned it and put it away. NH ML is about 2 1/2 month away. Bow is all set. Need to check out the zero on my centerfires then the guns a good to go.

And everyyear I forget to do something. I'm betting this year will be no exception.
