Well I went to an auction the other evening. A friend I did gun shows with contracted cancer and passed away. His wife sold most of the guns he had at an auction in Cody. Prices were really high as the auction was also on the net by Proxibid but the guy was a friend and his wife needed the money I guess...so I paid wayyy too much for some of these items.. The items pictured are some of the smaller items i got.. I can't stand it when Contender bbls get sold so I bought the 3 pictured One is a 30-30 and the other 2 are 22 Hornets. All have Leupold handgun scopes and I averaged about 225 on them.. The Handgun pictured is a really nice Ruger BlackHawk 357..But it IS a FlatTop made in I think 1958..I also have a FlatTop 44 Mag and am really tickled to have one of each. The Gun is in really nice condition and all original..I paid a bit much at 500 for it but..heck I WANTED it. Not pictured are 2 rifles I picked up..One is a like new Remington 788 in the kinda rare 6MM cal with a 3x9 Leupold VX II. Also paid 500 for it but again I WANTED it. The last was a Ruger 77 in 257 Roberts with a Leupold 3x9 VXII that I paid 475 for..but it was AFTER the auction.. Just bought it for some trading stock. And today I pick up a Winchester 94 rifle in 30-30 I bought sight unseen from an aquaintance..He wanted 250 for it and I just said to heck with it and bought it. My gun show partner has seen it and said it's in nice shape but not like new. And just before the show I got a neat little 6x18 Craftsman lathe from a local knifemaker for the grand sum of 60 bucks. Had almost all the threading gears and some tooling so I couldn't resist. I even bought a neat little knife from him for 50 bucks. As an aside.. There were quite a few knives in this auction and Holy Cow..Knives are really getting up there. Regular ol Buck knives were selling for 50 to 150 bucks..

Skeet,
When you buy a hunting or show buddy's stuff from his widow it is not always about price, for sure.:) Sometime things like four kids and no money creep into what you buy and how much you pay, in a way that really helps. I never regretted one thing I bought like that, for sure.

The bottom Contender barrel in the pic looks like it has a 3 ring Conetrol mount on it. That's not cheap.

There were quite a few knives in this auction and Holy Cow..Knives are really getting up there. Regular ol Buck knives were selling for 50 to 150 bucks..

That's because the current crop of knives that are available are made in China out of cheap steel......no quality whatsoever. That, and the fact that a lot of American knife makers are going out of business, makes them "collectable".:(
Congrats, as always, on the rest of your finds...............:)

The top Contender bbl has a Leupold 3 ring mount..and the bottom is a Conetrol mount. Good eye on that.. Not many people know that mount. The Middle scope is a 4x Leupold and the top Leupold has target turrets..A very rare scope only cataloged for one year i think. Yesterday I had a fellow bring me a S&W 460 handgun..Wow..what a gun. It is in a S&W Shoulder holster/pouch and has a Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 pistol scope. Has the box papers etc. Gun is about 97% with dies Brass bullets and a few boxes of factory Hornady ammo.. Also about 150 rounds of handloaded ammo in new cases(I don't shoot others reloads though). He wants 1000 bucks for it which I guess is fair but if I hadda carry this for bears I'd just carry a shotgun. He also has a Win 94 XTR 30-30 rifle(not carbine) with checkered stock and forend. Angle eject but he doesn't have the mounts and rings..but has the box?! Has a repaired crack at the top tang but he wants 300 which isn't bad.. I may just buy it and sell my Lone Star Commemorative Rifle.. Never shot it anyway

I'd guess that 300$ for a 94 XTR in any caliber is a good deal.
I use Conetrol mounts (on rifles), so, I know what they look like. Great mounts, but not cheap.
I'm kinda laughing about that S&W 460. I'm thinking it's for sale from the same syndrome I see at gun shows every time: really big bore firearms with less than 1 box of ammo fired through it. Those big cannons sound great on paper- and they're certainly effective in the hands of an experienced user. But, I think one bench session enlightens a lot of people. :)

Think I will buy the 94..I'd guess somebody makes mounts for it.. Have an old but nice Bushnell 1.5x4.5 Command post scope I can put on it. Shoot my deer with it anyway..out the back window

You know Jack..I do not like heavy 44 loads or heavy 45s.,.Never have to shoot a Casull again. Nasty. Now i had a 500 Smith and it really wasn't real bad..much easier than the casull...but it is a BIG gun..same frame as the 460 If I have to shoot a bear or whatever to protect life and limb..the sucker is gonna be chewing on the gun anyway..so I don't think the caliber will make all that much difference LOL. Still rather have a shotgun with slugs

Oh talked to the guy last night and told him I'll take the 94 XTR crack and all
