Finally got notice yesterday that my custom made 6.5 mm suppressor had arrived at the class III dealer's store. I dropped by filled out the ATF forms, paid the dealer's fee and the ATF tax. So now we wait an additional 100-120 days to get an OK from Uncle. You must order the can, pay for it, have it shipped to a class III dealer then upon arrival do the ATF papers, all toll about 6-7 months.

This is my $900 contribution to civility at the farm, not blowing the neighbors out of their beds at midnight, while shooting wild hogs with my 6.5 Grendel across the highway from their houses. I also just finished developing a sub sonic load for quiet shooting.

My old pond, about 1 1/2 acres, is north of a highway and there are five houses along the south side of the highway about 200 feet away, down a small hill. A fast loaded Grendel is quite loud at night and so I decided to try and maintain a level of consideration for the sleeping folks.

Nice of you to do, and easier on your own ears, too.

Rapier,

Good deal. The suppressor may head off a shooting ban in your community.

You know it is interesting when you start looking around for shooting stuff, if you have a hog problem. You see way more folks than you would think, now turning to suppressors and very expensive night sights on high dollar AR type guns. It is pretty common to see stuff like $5-6,000 sight setups and AR guns with uppers in 6.5 to 500s that run $1k plus, sporting suppressors that may run an additional $5-6,000. These are farmers and land owners who are quietly building hog killing machines. I was astounded to see folks with $12-13,000 in a quiet, night time, hog killer.

The guy at the can mfg company, Liberty, told me they are running two shifts at 24-7 making $5-6k large bore cans as fast as they can make them. Guys in Texas with hog problems are snapping up high dollar cans for the 458 and 500 Socom.

I have my Grendel built pretty cheap and have it setup so I can switch from quiet to fast if a big bruiser comes around. Right now the 140 Interlock subs (1088 fps) shoot 1/2 inch low at 50 and the fast 120s (2,580 fps) shoot 1/2 inch high at 100. It has been an interesting project.

FL allows you to hunt Yotes, Armadildos and hogs at night with a can, a light and a Gun & Light permit at 0 cost. You just register and call an 800 number when you are out hunting so the F & G folks know it is not someone jack lighting deer, if you get loud.
