Colt 1911: Series 70 vs Series 80?

I remember this being discussed a little bit before on another thread, but I can't find it. Can anyone tell me what the differences are, and which is considered the "better" handgun?

if its a old colt id buy it if its a new one id pass as its quality is no better then a kimber or spingfeild prety much just paying for the colt name from years gone by.

Actually the series 80 is just as good as a seies 70 except in fit and finish. After the series 80 Colt seemed to go downhill a bit more. The 80 had some design changes to enhance manufacturing. I just bought a seies 80 and it looks good but the series 70 goes higher in price. Just a bit nicer gun..in my opinion...For all intents and purposes the Mil Spec 45s are a very good buy now days. Get 'em new for 375 to 425 and they all seem to shoot ok. Colts on the other hand go for twice or more..and not worth it. But I have a Wilson Combat and can say...while overpriced...are probably still worth the cost

in the Series 70 and the Series 80, is that Colt put a hammer block safety on the Series 80. It was a kinda politically correct attempt to have a hammer block safety like a lot of the the European Imports at the time.

The it was an ok idea except in the execution it put a link between the frame and the slide and made assembly a little more difficult. Taking it apart was the same but putting it back together you had to remember to push the safety plunger on top of the frame down as you put the slide on the action to keep from damaging the plunger for the hammer block safety.

At least that's the way I remember it. If I'm mistaken, please someone correct me, but that is the way I remember it.
