Ever wonder "what if" and tried to figure how long it would take to get a class III if you really ordered one? Well I just took delivery of my suppressor for varmint hunting in FL, which is allowed for night hunting of varmints by permit.

I read the rules. I had previously ordered in 85 an AR shortly, full auto, and decided not to go through the hassle of individual application which includes the Sheriff signing off, mug shots, finger prints, FBI investigation, etc. So I went with a Corporation***8217;s application which is a straight forward paperwork filling, it also helped that I own several corporations already so no need to establish a new entity. But you can file for a Class III purchase under an LLC or a Corp. First I ordered the can from the maker in the Corp name on May 15, 2011. Cost of the can was $525 plus shipping with a 6 weeks wait. This was a custom 6.5mm can made by Liberty, in their quick connect series called the Torch.

When the can was ready on July first I received an email from the maker, I had the only Class 3 Dealer in the county send the maker a FFL for shipment to the dealer. Upon receipt the dealer called for me to stop by. So I went in, with Corporate documents, filled out the ATF paperwork and paid the dealer $300 ($200 for uncle and a $100 fee). No you can***8217;t fill out the paperwork until the dealer has item in hand to verify caliber and serial number on the item itself. I tried to short cut that deal, no luck.

Yesterday the 28th of Feb I picked up the can and ATF permit, having to fill out an additional firearms transfer sheet as if the can was a gun, before I could walk out with it.

Total time from order to delivery in my hands by the simple method, 42 weeks. I was first told 90 days, which is a pipe dream, nothing in the process takes 90 days except the making of the can.
