CC for Retired LEOs

Had to qualify today for my CC Permit under Federal Law for retired LEOs. Tempature was already in the 80s at 9 am and going up, humid , dew point at60. Now for a fat old man this is not good, besides arthritis in my hands hurting. That's my list of excuses, took 2 1911s with me, a 9mm and a 45 acp. Opted for the 9mm as it is easier for me to rack the slide when hands hurt. Went through the course without a clitch, so am good for another year. Funny thing our state permit doesn't require and qualifying, $50 for 5 yrs. the retired LEO cost $50 per yer and an annual shooting qualification. BNecause of the ease of obtaining a state permit it is not reconized in a lot of states, where the retired LEO one is valid in all states, even Illinois.

I hear you on this "Qualification" stuff for a retired LEO to Carry on his creditentials. On duty we qualified twice a year. For 10 years I qualified 100+ agents twice a year and retained my Instructor Certification.

It should be a mere "Compliance" thing for retired Lawmen to stay "Street Legal." WHEN do the Street Mopes we all "COLLARED" go get their CERTIFICATION to carry?

My requal is coming up in August, but the old department will only qual you with a max of two handguns, which isn't really a bug-a-boo, I'll shoot the glock and then decided on a belly gun, as long as I travel in NC and WVA the state premit is good, if I decided to pop up to DC or Maryland then I travel on the LEO one.

My scores have dropped into the mid 90's now on the standard state qual, nothing more than lack of "free" ammo and practice , has caused it

My permit reads qualified for semi auto, I didn't even try for the revolver one. State permit doesn't matter what you carry. If I do carry on my person which is only occassionly I carry a Ruger LCP .380 which I try to shoot at least bimonthly. Mostly use my permit for carying in the vehicle. Do carry while hunting birds in the Northern part of the state with the dogs because of timber wolves. Then generally carry a .45 acp.

In Nevada you have to re-qualify every 5 years. New photo ID and background check about $80 and half day shooting class at a range about $50 depending on company. Shoot 3, 5, and 7 yards (easy). Qualify with a revolver and you are qualified for any revolver same with a semi-auto. You use to have to qualify with each weapon you intended to carry now one revolver covers all revolvers and one semi all semi's.

I like your system and your permit should be valid in any state. Except Ill. That's the reason I get mine as a retired LEO as I pass through the land of Lincoln several times a year.

In Boston you have to qualify with a revolver by firing 12 rounds double action at 25 yard modified target (no ideat what that looks like) at 7 yards then you have to fire 18 rounds either shoot double or single action at 15 yards. Out of 300 you need to score 211 points.

Often wondered why the 25 yd. requirement. This is a defencive permit. Shouldn't need to shhot at that distance as you should be getting out of the situation. As a retired LE Firearms instructor I understand the need for an active LEO as they are in the offensive mode. Oh well, there is not any standardization for the permit issued under the federal law.
