GOB,
Our part of the country, Gulf Coast, has been hit pretty hard, most would not realize it, but we have a lot of folks out of work. Luckily, March starts the first of our busy season with Spring Break. Right now in our area there are quite a few help wanted signs. The jobs might not be great, but at our age, we learned a long time ago that honest work is honorable work. So hit up some places that are looking for folks. If you know construction and are a problem solver, which I think you are, a hardware retailer is probably looking for you right now. 90% of them do not have anyone that knows diddly about which end of a hammer does what. It is where age and experience are truly beneficial.

When I owned a hardware store, I wanted experienced problem solvers on my floor, not youngsters the did not know crap from Crisco.

I wish you the best, just keep your chin up guy.

GOB,

Since you paid taxes on all your income, be sure to get every benefit working folks are due. I feel your pain.

That's terrible. Collect your unemployment, then welfare, get food stamps, fuel assistance and anything else you can. Unlike most, you have paid for it so use it.

And hopefully you can land something pretty soon. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck.

Man I hate hearing news like that! Don't give up looking! Like buckhunter said, take advantage of all government programs until you find another job.

Hate to hear that news but hang in there, seems things have a way of working out. I just don't see too many of these gov programs they pat themselves on the back for enacting because those that have worked their way through life can't qualify for any of them. Either you make too much money, will kick your butt if you own a home. Will take it away and give it to someone else....have dealt with all that with elderly inlaws that have passed and now the gov has its hand into the checkbook of my mother as I am getting her settled into nursing home... I have to write a check for thousands...and give it away to someone else other than family members that have helped her over the years..yep,....gov programs?..only out there for those that own nothing or have never put anything into the system....but good luck....keep head up.

About the only argument an employer can put up is that the employee quit or was terminated for reasons as allowed by law, as a defense. If you have a termination notice and letters of excellent performance, that pretty well takes care of several avenues of any defense. I use the word defense because the employer takes a hit on their unemployment tax rate when employees file for compensation so that is the reason you may see resistance from the prior employer.

they are claiming gross insubordination. The state is holding onto unemployment and benefits until I argue it out..... I Hate this... AND I am now starting all the medical retirement paperwork...
