plans for spring

I was wondering if any one has spring plans like turkey hunts or sprig bear I broke my foot so I am out for a while.
Has any one been ot for mushrooms yet.

Well since springs here has taken a long time coming, plans are changing daily.

I leave for Africa May 6th for a 7 day hunt for Kudu, Springbuck, Blesbuck, Impala & Warthog. I hope to have my bear baits out before I leave, but that is still in questions, as there is still lots of snow in the bush. It looks like I will get lucky & get them out this weekend..

Pretty much the day after I get back we will be moving the trailer & boat to the lake for the summer season. Going to be pretty busy!

Yesterday the PA Spring Gobbler season opened. Here at the farm, I was afield by 0530. At 0550 I heard a gobbler sound off about 300 yards west of my stand. I called for the next two hours and none talked back to me. I will be out again tomorrow.

Well since I am off for a bit I am going to start back on the old reloading bench when I have the mind for it. Keep on arching. Been thinking about going and getting a hook wet down at the river.

We do not have the number of bear in Michigan to support a spring season.

It is hard to get tags for the fall for the areas that are not clear over on the far west side of the UP. It takes a lot of gas to maintain baits prior to the hunt unless you hire a guide.

If I want to hunt around home (west side of lower penninsula) it would take close to 10 years of applying to get enoough preference points to draw a tag. You only get one preference point a year to build up to the 10 that it takes to draw. I think I have 7 or 8 right now.

Edit I just checked. I only have 7 points so I hope my body holds out so I can hunt in another 3 years.

Wow, had no idea the bear pop was that low there... when things are going at my bait I can see 10-20 different bears a night...

10 years out here might be for a moose or antelope tag in a local zone..

But no turkey here in SK... and 10 year draw for residnets in AB....

I have not bought a tag in years but when I did it took about 3 year to get one and the last I had hurd it took 5 year to pull a tagfor the lower
I had hurd it was getting harder to get tags last time I had a tag was 96 it took 3 year to pull one for newberry zone.

No spring Bear around here but a lot of them around. Going to take my Gdaughter on her 1st Turkey hunt this saturday. I have a 20 ga so if we see on I will let her shoot it. She doesn't know that yet. Then its yard work and a church thing for this week and next.

Both of my daughters did go with me a few times and I liked it. Problem is both have become somewhat of a animal lovers since then. No their not PETA stage but they a couple of rungs on the latter below that. Its fine with me. I hope that the g kids want to go and I will be willing to take them. My oldest GDaughter wants to be a Vet but she gets the whole circle of life thing plus the role of hunters. At her age she is really into the buck call and bleat can. I suspect she will like the turkey call this weekend.

Watched over 100 turkey all winter here around the house and they roost only about 125 yds away. Lots of long beards in the bunch but where did they go? First day up back had 2 walk past but out of gun range and never even looked my direction or at the decoys..just walked over the hill..Been out the rest of the week and even went to my favorite haunt where I have taken over a half doz new hunters for their first turkey and heard not one gobble or put as far as I can hear. Been that way the other 3 spots. Quiet. I figure they know if they make a noise, they get shot or eaten by coyote. Yes they are bad around here and friday morning at 3am, they must of found an owl cause 150yds up back on gasline, they had big fight, owl and coyotes..quite a few. Oh well, still a very nice time to be in the woods and those that told me about lice shampoo to spray on clothes for tick protection I want to thank you as so far, not one tick and I been in infested areas...example just yesterday we took small walk on the North Country Trail and I had 1 on me...wasn't sprayed down..thanks again...

Took my Gdaughter out Sat AM. Rolled her out of bed a t 4:30 and was in the woods by 5:30. Birds were quite. We did have 2 hens in range. One had a beard and is was legal but passed on it. Had a small doe walk past us at about 15 yards. Went home at 11 and hung out the rest of the day. A very good day.

I thought I might pop a bag of pop corn and watch the slow rump roast turn on the spit in DC, :-)

Then I am going up to the farm and plant me a pea patch.

During June, wife and myself will be moving. As kids are gone, downsizing to a 2br.
Just going to Lakewood,Co. Man, I'm getting too old for this stuff!
