lead pot question

So instead of kneeling around a fire over the old cast iron pot I am thinking about asking the wife for a lead pot for Christmas. I was looking at this one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/637732/lee-production-pot-four-furnace-110-volt but I know little about them. I don't do a TON of casting at a time so I was liking the options (bottom pour, weight it will handle, etc) on this one.

Opinions?

Rich..If you want a little better one go for the Pro 4 Pot. 8 or 9 dollars more but a bit less problems The production pot 4 has a tendency to leak from the spout. The pro 4 is a bit better in that regard. It even leaks occassionaly Only Lee I have is the small one you need a ladle for. I only use it with single cavity moulds and it works just fine. I cast a bunch(couple hundred) of 230 gr round nose for the 45 auto last week.. Sized and loaded already. Bought the mould with handles at a gun show..Paid 15 bucks. In fact that is what I paid for the lead furnace at a gun show too....full of lead LOL! And speaking of gun shows..Doing one down the road bout a hundred miles this weekend. I'll let y'all know how it went

I have used that model Lee pot for years. Skeet is right that it will drip from the spout. The cure for that is to turn the screw on the end of the spout release (or whatever ya call it). The screw slot is on the top rear and easily accessible. A minor PIA, but if you leave a screwdriver handy on your work surface, no big deal.
The one thing I wish it had is a temp control labeled in degrees. Mine has a temp control labeled 1 thru 10 - 1 is low, 10 is high heat. But, that's asking a lot from a cheap lead pot.
Sounds like I'm complaining about the product, but I'm really not- it works and has for a long time.
I think I agree with Skeet - spend the extra 8 or 9 bucks for the larger capacity one. Even if you don't think you need the larger capacity, the larger pot would make melting down scrap lead easier - your scrap lead will fit in the pot easier - less cutting up a piece of flashing, etc.

I was going to tell you about the Pro Melt by RCBS, but looked it up and great scott $374..... I mean that is a bunch of Lee or Lyman pots. I bought one years ago and it was not even close to that price, good pot, but.....:eek:.

Heck Ed. I have one of those pots..but it is black and named Ohio Thermal. Made a month before RCBS bought the rights to it. It is a good pot and it works great but I really don't use it(Paid 40 bucks at an auction). I do have an ol SAECO pot that I do use quite a bit..probably as old as you..or me LOL Still works great. I did put a new electric cord on it though. Also 40 bucks at a gun show... full of lead
