Hi guys.

I have the worst question anyone could ask,here goes.
I am looking the best deal on an airgun.
Considering: price/velocity/accuracy/reliability.
I am partial to the .177 because to me thats what a pellet gun should ne,
and if I wanted to Hunt with a .22, I would pull out my LR.
So far,the gamo bigcat,and Crosman nitro venom seem to ne my
best candidates.
What do You Guys think?

The Crossman 760 was "the" air gun of choice 35yrs ago. The fact that it's still made today says something to me.

The problem that you get into with a powerful air gun is that it sounds just like a 22 LR standard velocity, so there is not savings on the noise. I have had several and the best so far has been the single break RWS M-34 gun, but it is noisy. This .177 will easily, fully penetrate a 1/2 inch sheet of plywood at over 50 feet. It is advertised at 1,000 FPS and will stack pellets at 50 feet. But like all RWS products it is not cheap.

A word to the wise, just remember that an air gun scope is made backwards inside, the airgun recoils with the spring and jumps forward. The air gun's reverse recoil action can tear a powder gun scope to pieces. Plus the rings need to be stout because the airgun, at least the RWS, tends to throw the rings off the gun. There is a company in Texas that makes airgun scope rings. They look similar to a TSOB ring set. Drawback is the barrel and receiver are separate and the scope is attached to the receiver, while the iron (plastic) sights are on the barrel.

These days we have the Nitro Piston. IN the old days the springers would tear scopes apart, they were loud and they cost a lot. Not any more. Look into a Nitro Piston and you'll never go back to the old springers. :D

I'd just go buy a suppressor and put it on a 22. Shoot regular velocity ammo and it won't make a lot of noise anyway. Ain't cheap..but like a submarine..runs silent LOL

Actually the old CB Cap is the cheapest way to go. The longer the barrel the quieter they are. If you use a full length 22 rifle barrel they are about as quiet as a suppressed 22 LR.

I keep meaning to mount a 16 inch barrel I already have, after I thread it, on a 500X action I already have. I just keep putting it off, because I found a decent X barrel. But I do not like the X series. Rem lost their mind and attempted to go cheap on a fine shooting 22 series gun.

Sorry about that. I am surely not into the newer airguns. I used many different ones in the past and really did kinda stick with the Sheridan. I do have one not many have heard of though. A Kessler. Something like a Sheridan too though. Works just fine and made in the 50s..Like my Sheridan that I got from My father in law. I think airguns have a bit of use in countries that don't allow their citizens to own REAL firearms. Otherwise where I live not much use for them....even though I do have a few. Heck where I live I don't even have much use for a suppressor LOL!!

For closer range AG shooting, I am favoring the Crosman 13XX pumpers. I have three, two in .177 (pistol and carbine) and one in .22 (carbine). Much more scope friendly. The higher you go in velocity, the noisier it becomes. I don't shoot my springers much anymore.
