I am looking to find somebody who casts 303 british (.311-.314) bullets in 180 to 200 grain for a reasonable price for a buddy of mine. Anybody got any leads?
Thanks
Richard

GOB,
I cast many different rifle bullets for my .303 arms. I use wheelweights with a dash of tin and drop the bullets into a bucket of water. My favorites are the Lyman #311467 (173 grain) semi-spritzer that drops from the mould at .314. I size most to .311 and others are shot as-cast in certain .303s. I lube with Alox and gas check all bullets. Another good bullet is the Lyman #31141 (174 grain) flat nose that also goes well in the .30/30. Again, the 31141 drops from the mould at .313 and some get sized to .311.
The 175 grain spitzer, Lyman #311327 shoots well in some .303s and not so well in others depending on bore wear. Lyman makes the #311299 (205 grain roundnose) specifically for the .303 British and it shoots well in all my rifles. Lyman states: "Bullets drop from the moulds .003 to .005 larger than the first three numbers indicate to allow for sizing."
Casting your own is an interesting hobby and results in very accurate ammunition when tailored to specific rifles.

Yeah if it was for me that's what I would be down to. But this buddy of mine works a few weeks on and a few weeks off and likes to target shoot his enfield when his is off. However with all the family stuff he has going on he is lucky to get one day to reload and one day to shoot when he is off so he is looking for a company to cast for him.
Thanks

Hey Adam, what powders would you suggest for the 303. Buddy called me last night and said he was getting a few hang fires now and then with BL-C(2).
Thanks

GOB..look in the Lyman Cast bullet loading manual. of the Newest reloading manual from Lyman. Should be available in Wally World. I have been using quite a bit of AA 5744. Works well with cast.. better cast bullet powders are 4227 4198 3031 . Usually faster powders with cast bullet loads. I even use Unique..

GOB,
For jacketed bullets in the .303 I use IMR 4895, IMR 3031 and H-414. For cast bullets I use 2400, Unique and IMR 4198.
Hope this helps.
