Just picked up my new bench gun from the smith. Needless to say it started out its life as a 6.5x47 & 300WSM switch barrel. I purchased the rifle 2 weeks ago off a buddy and fellow shooter. The profile was the same as my Red gun and although the action wasn't a BAT M but rather an MB dual port, I was offered a deal I couldn't pass on. A day later I had a 31" Krieger 6mm MTU 8twist .236 bore blank in route as well as a Harrels brake. 3 more days later it was in my smiths hands chambering it with the same reamer as my other XC.
The one is a BAT MB RBLPRE, Jewel Br trigger, Masterclass stock, bedded by Alex Stitman, barrel finished out at 30" and is practically a replica of my other bench gun. I missed the UPS this evening who was dropping off my 10x50x60 Sightron. With this scope it should weigh in at 16lbs 15.5oz keeping me just under the 17# limit.
Hopefully I'll have the barrel broke in this weekend and can start my ladder tests. Matches start in April so I have high hopes for this one!

At what ranges do you shoot? What weight bullet and powder do you prefer? All the best...

I have a 300 yard range right out my back door, er front door. Broke the barrel in on Saturday and it cleaned up after 4 shots! Proceeded to take 6 more and shot a 1.5" group at 300 after scrubbing the barrel each shot and just picking a "light" load..
Sunday I shot a ladder test at 500 yards. I have a secret spot a mile down the road. My accuracy nodes came in almost identical to my othe 6XC just .4 gr of powder lighter, so this barrel is just a smidge faster.
The go to powder for the 6XC is H4350... Period. I don't try and reinvent the wheel. It's probably the easiest round I've ever found to tune. Already have a load figured out just have to monkey with seating depths now
So after 10 rounds of break in and 13 rounds of ladder test I think I have a winner again! Hope to shoot these for group at 500 tomorrow. I'll let you know how I make out but I'm expecting something In The 1.5" -5 shot range at 500

So last night I shot a couple groups of the same load at different seating depths .002" apart. One target came in at 2" and this one is around 1.75" 5 shot at 510 yards. .007" jammed. Pretty good shooter but still gonna tinker a bit with .009 and .011 jammed. Seems to be tightening up. Right now she'll compete at 1000 yards, but I want it below 1.5 at this distance.
Not too shabby at all for only 23 rounds down the barrel

Petey,
Working up a gun is always fun. Just what are you looking to do? I was twice on my state's High Power Five-Man Rifle Team at Camp Perry and shot iron sights at 200, 300 and 600 yards.
Your expectations at 1,000, or whatever, yards, is very conditional to light, wind and mirage, as I assume you already know. Been there and done that, so best of luck. As you already know, NO two days are the same when shooting 1,000 yards. I only shot iron sights at 1,200 yards three times and kept good notes. I will advise you to watch the wind and the light.
Adam
