Been trying to get over this chest deal for 1 1/2 month. I had always kinda fufu'd the thought of high altitude sickness.Ventolin kinda keep it in some what check. If we can't hunt
Elk, son is no longer interested in going. If I am to hunt, looks like a 7k limit.
Guys I hunt with are there to hunt.....not be a recovery team! Never thought I'd have to make this call.......guess I'm mortal after all!
Gonna try Kaiser and gym for a couple of more months then make decision.

Hang in there.
I too suffer from altitude issues. Really sucks being a hunter and a Ski Patroller! I just hit the big 6-0 so its time to reconsider several things.
Not all the wapiti have to be hunted at nose bleed heights. Maybe you and I can hook up for a mid-altitude hunt somewhere?
Dont give up

Oh, I'm not giving up...yet. Turned 74 on this last trip.......I just don't want to become a statistic! PS, that BS of 'dying doing something you want to do is just that....BS

Up turn...hiked about a mile today.....no wheezies or crashes....the other issue to be determined is altitude limitations....I think I'm gonna be good to go to some extent! Probably not gonna be as bad I had feared! Thanks for the wishes

If you can descend to a base camp to sleep at night it makes tolerating altitude easier. Our condo was at 9,660 ft so it didn't help me enough (top elev 12,408)
Took me 3 days just to be able to ski, then needed a day to recoup. Installed an O2 concentrator - didn't help. Never tried the meds route

OK, Bronc is over further tests show irregular heart beat. Personal decision....gonna have to limit to about 7500k activitioies...it's either that of quit totally and I'm just not gonna do that. Was assigned a young Harvard Dr that is
against every thing I do.
Guess we keep on trucking and see what the future does bring. Face it, I've
reached reached a new service limit.

OK, after Bronc treatment, they treated for pneumonia....am on a ventolin inhaler.....still get short of breath but can recover...MRI shows nothing major in upper body....today, cardiologist reminded me of valve malfunction from a few years ago. Advises to stay away from altitude. Want's to run a mirade of tests....
Docs in the past have been ok with this as long as I pace myself. I'm debating....................
What it looks like is I'm gonna have to do things at lower altitudes or take up fishing!i
