most farm and ranch supply stores carry rope and various hardware, hooks etc. i don't know how mechanically skilled you are but you could make a shoulder harness out of it. i would suggest you put the weight a little lower though, around the waist preferably. reason, it's easier to pull with the waist than with the shoulder. lower center of gravity. i would think a visit to any good sporting goods store would have deer drags. cabelas and bass pro shops usually have all the goodies you need.

also a good section of rope is good to throw over a branch to hang the deer and gut it. makes the job a lot easier. and cleaner. when you start to drag the deer don't do like mr. dumbie, "me" , did and drag it backward. it's amazing how resistant that fur is going the wrong way.:o drag 'em head first.

look around, i'm sure you will find all the equipment you need plus some. don't forget a good gut hook knife also.

before i forget, welcome to the forum.

have a good hunt.

may st. hubertus smile on you.

Have you ever seen those little plastic "snow sleds" for kids?
basically just a 4-5 foot long 2 foot wide piece of plastic, slightly curved up at the nose.

I have used those before and the worked pretty good, cheap as well.

Gal I can relate...they dont call me Lil red fer nuthin..lol
I had one heckuva time tryin new things to make it easy on me. After 100 yrds of draggin..no matter whichaway I tried..seemed like the gun weighed 100 lbs more than the deer..and movin inches at a time, esp. up a steep hill, was not an understatement.
First thing..always gut the deer fore you even attempt to move it. Git all of the innards out..you can do it real easy by layin the deer on it's side once you've made yer cut. Lil hands like ours make it easy to pull everything outta the chest cavity too.

Next, get you one of those safety harnesses that folks use fer tree stands. They are made to even out the weight if you fall and are danglin there..and they also even out your weight against the dead weight behind you. You'll wind up usin yer leg, shoulders & chest muscles to pull the drag..and the weight is evenly dispersed between all of em. That also leaves free hands to hold your gun and other gear..or to even grab a tree to pull on iffin you need that extra oomph to git the deer over a log er sumthin.
Other thing...always hook the deer round the head/neck. Goin against the hide the other way.

I tried the carts..and in the thick woods round here..it was a disaster..esp hittin holes and tryin to werk it round trees and stuff. Easy pickins in a field tho..makes it much easier.

There are times that no matter what you try...a deer is just to dern big. While it is illegal here..you might have to find yerself quarterin the deer to git it outta there. Once I killed a big buck..185 lbs of em against my 100. Just wont gonna werk.
I had over a mile to walk..and callin on my radio did me no good to the farmer who's land I was huntin on. I could barely hear his tractor runnin...so I decided to walk back and get help.
By the time my short stubby legs got me back to the farm...everybody had done went up to the store to git lunch. (I aint know that at the time er I woulda waited) It was gittin warm too...so I walked back to the buck..cut him in half (cuttin his backbone right behind the ribs & makin sure I left his privates attached) and made 2 trips totin him outta there.
When I got to the check station, the dern game warden pulled in less than 5 mintues behind me..and I had to explain what I had done. He seemed ok with it..but asked that I try to wait for help next time. Point bein..that if the circumstances warrant it...you should not get in any trouble for it.

If you use a quad to pull it....make sure you attatch it low on the quad..not on the rack on back..attatching high will flip the quad...seen it done...can toss on back if have a rack..

Thank you

ok thanks for the info, I was wondering about that :)

Here is a tip to get it loaded in your truck if that is what you are driving.

There should be a place in the front corner of the box where the stake pocket is [that is if they still have stake pockets] that you can hook a pulley. Run a rope from the deers head thru the pulley and back out to a tree or something solid. With the head up on the tail gate slowly drive away and the deer will go up in the bed.

You could do the same by pulling it up in the box with your quad.
