Gas prices

How are the gas prices in your area? Right now, Idaho is about $0.41 (about $2.90/gallon) over the national average. The Idaho DA is looking into why our prices are still so high so I'm hoping gas prices will come down in the coming weeks. Maybe I'll actually be able to fill up my tanks instead of just putting in $20 and trying to stretch it till next payday.

My wife has found it for $2.00 where she works in Gainesville, Virginia, so she alternates filling up my car and her car. Around here, about an hour away from Gainesville, it is still around $2.50 a gallon. They are forecasting that gas prices could be below $2 by this winter. That will be great.

Tater,

Good luck trying to get an answer from the gas companies. Why is gas $2 in Gainesville an hour from here, $2.50 here, and about $2.80 in Bethesda which is 15 miles from here. It has nothing to do with how much it costs the gas company to supply it, but entirely with what people are willing to pay and how far they will go out of their way to get gas. If the disaparity were much greater between Bethesda and here, people would drive here to fill up. However, there is more money in Bethesda (i.e., richer people) so they charge more than Germantown, and there is more money in Germantown than in Gainesville, so they charge more in Germantown. That is just the way it goes. Kind of like house prices.

Isn't it great that gas prices and house prices are dropping now. Maybe it is because people have finally said enough is enough and we aren't going to run up our debt any more.

I`ve been paying $2.19 since last Friday here at the local station. I work ~ 50 miles south and gas I`ve seen around there has been $2.26/gal. Last Thursday it was $2.29 at home and $2.26 at work. It dropped a dime here and still is the same as it has been the last 2 wks at work. My wife bought it across town Monday for $2.13/gal. They seem to charge whatever the local populace will bear. I don`t see any difference in the brand either. Sunoco, BP, Shell, No Name, all seem to be within a couple pennies at the most of each other in a given area.
