Really BIG gator??

Hey Val is this picture for real? Supposed to be a 23 footer killed by the Game Wardens in Lake Istapoka. Tell me it ain't for real!!

TheeBadOne 08-13-2007 01:17 PM

Well, one thing it is, a great example of how to pose and present a subject to the camera in a way that makes it look larger than life. The subject (gator) is much closer to the camera than the:

-LEO
-truck
-back hoe

Going by the diameter of the rope and width of the bucket (which doesn't look like it's attached to a monster sized machine) I'd say 23 feet is a bit over optimistic.

Also consider that BOTH sides of the sling from the crane disappear BEHIND the gator's neck, and we have a simple Photoshop-job.

(Even if not, if the LEO is 6" tall, the gator is only a touch more than three times that.)

My guess would be about a 12-footer, cut and pasted "closer" to the camera. Still a very big gator, but no 23-footer has lived on this planet for 150 million years - if then.

I agree it is a photoshop, right click and save it, then open it and examine the edges of the gators and you'll see the pixellation.

but the single biggest giveaway is readily appearent.....

the officers shadow is almost directly below him, but there's no shadow from the gator, and the shadows fromt he officer and backhoe dont match up, the officers shadow and the pickups are slightly to the left, yet the backhoe's is almost straight down.

No its not, thats been going around for a while and like they said its just the angle......but....they do have some monsters in that lake.....my son has a fish camp on it.....he doesnt let the lab out of his site or near the water..

Sorry to disagree with you Val, since we all know you do know your gators, but this particular photo is a fake.

the reason listed above are just the simple ones.

by saving the photo, and then viewing the edges of different parts of the picture you can see how the pictures pixellation ( the dots/squares that makeup the picture) is different.

It is physically impossible to have more than one size of pixellation in any single picture taken with only one camera.

any single camera, at any set resolution, will _always_ have exactly the same pixellation in every photo taken with the same resolution setting. It's how it works.

You can clearly see at least three different pixellations in this photo, and there may be more, if i wanted to look harder at higher magnification.

you also cannot have shadows going in different directions without having multiple light sources, and multiple light sources in broad daylight would have noticableeffects elsewhere in the picture ( ie flash reflections from painted reflective surfaces, flashwash in other shadows etc etc)

I've been a closet admirer of many of the "poser/photoshoppers" , to do a good one takes a hell of alot of skill, technique, and patience, and this photo is most definately photoshopped.

I am not saying what is decribed is not possible, just that _THIS_ picture is not what it is claimed to be.

I'm sorry I meant to say No it wasnt real , but as I re-read I confused myself and others your 100%right....see I been gone so long you guys gotta re-train me.......

fabsroman 08-13-2007 08:11 PM

Skeet's questions was:

"Val, is this photo for real?"

Val's response:

"No, it's not."

Sounds like a good answer to me. Now, if you read her post right after the one before it, then it might get confusing.

skeet 08-13-2007 08:37 PM

Oh I don't know

Val never confuses me. I know what she meant!! I never disagree with a good lookin woman. Best not to disagree with any woman for that matter.:D

M.T. Pockets 08-14-2007 07:44 AM

That officer need a safety lesson for walking under a load like that.....

Rocky Raab 08-14-2007 09:10 AM

Fabs, be sure you don't photoshop any pics of your kid...these guys are too observant, LOL!

Dom 08-14-2007 09:16 AM

They got some real good photochop programs out nowadays, difficult for the average guy to tell real from fake, that's why they invented snopes I guess, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

P.S. This story says it's 13' 1" and from Texas, but is the same picture: THE FACTS

My mistake Val, things are nuts here I thought you were replying to me, not skeet, guess thats what i get for thinking again ( puts on duncecap)

Guess i'm just touchy right now, my step-sister is the ACOP of the Noble oklahoma police dept, and anyone and everyone even remotely associated with it, is catching hell from all sides.

again my apologies.

No worries my friend but what a coincidense..I was with some of Ft. Lauderdale's finest last night and they have a new Captain (female) who they say is trying to immasculate each officer one by one...morale is extremely low and considering its open season on cops down here this situation doesnt help.....
