BAD MOVE STARBUCKS!!!


"Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let
them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send
some of it to the troops there."

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support in
their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone
in
it , and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, we should not support them by buying any
of their products. As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we
should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very
popular
with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the
ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I
believe is right.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard
it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support of me,
and
I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more.

One thing I've learned on the internet is that if it seems either too good, too bad, or too weird then it probably is a hoax. I really wish people would try checking snopes.com before they pass on these nasty rumors.

I'm going to be a little late for work, I am e-mailing all those addresses with that snopes page.

I sent Mr Wolfe a nice looooooooooooong e-letter about checking his facts before sending out e-mails like that, especially from an Army address.

Nothing like a little overreaction. My guess is that since this thing has been circulating for a while, either this guy doesn't exist, his address will be non-existant, or he's already ehard about it from people who know him.

Instead of running around writing to people who probably don't exist, why not just make a pledge to yourself to check things out before passing them on as the gospel? Probably much more effective in the long run.

I didn't read the entire Snopes article, but I read enough to know that this guy already knows he screwed up and that he sent an e-mail out to all his buddies about 2 months later telling them that and asking to forward said e-mail on to whomever they forwarded the first e-mail to.

As a result, I don't think you need to e-mail him to let him know he screwed up. I think Snopes did a good enough job of it and I think he did the honorable thing after finding out he screwed up.

Just do not forward this e-mail on to other people.

Well, when I go into the Starbucks in East Memphis when I'm on Drill for the Air Guard, they always give me a big discount and free biscotti.

I'm a truck stop/Folgers/Maxwell House kinda guy myself.

When I can buy a whole can of coffee for the price of one cup of that plastic toy stuff...I'll pass.

hehehehe I am with Rocky on this one. I will occasionaly drink and expresso in the afternoon but for the most part we call Starbuck coffee, around here.. Half/Half. Because it is normally so strong and bitter you can pour half of it out and fill it half with water and it is still to strong and bitter to enjoy.

I was too Rocky, til last Christmas......

My mother bought us a Cuisenart (sp?) coffee maker. It grinds the beans for you then makes the coffee. Got a timer so that the coffee can be ready when you get up.

I know Im getting old when coffee excites me for Christmas. But, my wife started buying Starbucks whole bean coffee and setting that thing and I am spoiled. I didnt know how damn good coffee tastes, some compared to others. That is good stuff.

Anyway, I guess Im a coffee snob now. :D

You know, Rocky, if you can buy a can of coffee for $1.60, I don't think I'd want to drink any of it. :) Seriously, I usually pick up a medium sized brewed coffee when I'm at a Starbucks and it only sets me back a buck and six bits or less. Then if I have my thermal cup for it, it'll last me a good two hours or more of driving. Definitely helps the miles go by on the Ohio and PA Turnpikes when I travle to Annapolis!

I am a coffee snob, but I drink Folgers in the morning and the can costs about $5 and it lasts me a couple weeks to a month. I can tell the difference between good coffee and bad coffee, but taste is also an individual thing. I like my coffee pretty strong, and that is one good thing about making my own pot in the morning.

With that said, 4 years ago I bought my dad one of the best gifts I think I have ever given him. I bought him a Saeco coffee machine that makes regular coffee, espresso, and capuccino and I got an attachment that froths the milk with ease. The thing makes single cup servings and grinds the beans. All a person has to do is push a single button for an espresso, and if they want a regular size cup of coffee they have to turn a dial, to increase the water amount, and push a button. Damn thing cost $600 and I am waiting for the day I can buy one for myself. Just might write it of as business equipment and offer my clients espresso when they visit.

Anyway, my dad goes through about 10 pounds of coffee a year through that machine and my mom doesn't drink the stuff.

This was probably started by some idiot who was pissed at Starbucks. I've been to Starbucks in uniform and gotten discounts and nothing but friendly service.

Well, I keep hearing about those "frappa-cappa-soy-helfdecaf-vanilla-hazelnut" creations that go for eight bucks or so a cup, and it just makes me retch. I like mine brewed, black and medium strong: just the way it comes out of Juan's burro.

I have Bunn coffeemaker as my main machine and a separate little expresso maker, too. The Bunn is great. It keeps a reservoir of hot water, so when you add a batch of cold, the pre-heated stuff goes to the filter basket immediately. Full pot ready to drink in two minutes flat.

You aren't too far from the truth. Some of those Frapacinos (sp.) and other such drinks are in the $3 to $4 category. Never had one and probably never will. It kills me when I see my brothers spend $5 for a drink at a bar, so there is no way I am spending that kind of money at a coffee bar.

Any coffee other than cowboy coffee seems pretty good to me. Where I come from, coffee is measured in handfulls thrown in the pot. You swirl around and toss out the last half inch in your cup because of the grounds. You don't clean out your coffee pot after one pot, you just add another couple hand fulls. It's time to clean it when you have more grounds in the pot than coffee and that is no BS. Just a couple of weeks ago I stopped at a old hermit ranchers place I know. In his porch he has a wood stove that he burns year around, 90 degree weather or not. He has a big what you would call a camp coffee pot that he keeps on the wood burner. When I'm there, he puts out the sugar and condensed milk, I just add and add till the coffee is at a place that I can choke it down. I can easily handle espresso or whatever someone would concider strong coffee without any additives. With real cowboy coffee you might as well just eat the coffee beans.

I got a Bunn as well. They are great. It got moved from the kitchen to the camper when this new rig hit the house though.....

If you want a real espresso or cappucino, you need to go to Rome or Venice. I've been there once and I am dying to go back. I don't think any vacation will ever compare to those three weeks in Italy. What a time.

My brothers won't let me make the coffee. I like boiled brew with extra kick. Kid brother No.# 1 named my prefferred cuppa "Khe Sahn"...

"It tastes like it's been boiled in a helmet!" he yelped. To which Redundancy unit No. #2 rejoindered "...and strained through a wool sock..."

Works a charm during commercial fish openings and opening day of elk season though..... :D :D :D :D

Rocky. I buy the Starbucks French Roast in whole bean at Costco for about $15.00 for a 2.5 pound bag. I grind it myself so that it is almost a very fine powder. I use one of those Melita cone things to make a cup and it's darn good coffee. But then, I like my coffee quite strong anyway. Most of what I see in resteraunts these days taste much like flavored dishwater.

I buy the cheap known brands and then buy one of those blocks of cheap expresso brands....I mix the two together and whalla I got some good strong coffee.....then if you wanna taste somethin good...take that left over pot you didnt drink, stick it in the fridge...when you come home....pour it into a cocktail glass...add ice and sugar if you like it sweet.....a little milk and iced coffee...just got into that this year...I was tired of throwing a half pot of coffee away every day...its good try it.....
