Interesting wolverine story.
 

I was hunting with a friend last week and he related a story about a workmate. This fellow was a trapper in his younger years and had a problem with wolverines stealing animals from his traps. They are nearly impossible to trap, but another old trapper told him how to make a trap without metal to catch the bugger.
When he went to check his traps he had caught the wolverine, but it was still alive. He shot it 3 times in the head with a .22, and it got so mad it broke the snare. He managed to shoot it 4 more times before it decided to eat him. It attacked and got hold of his forearm and clawed at his gut with its rear feet like a cat. He fell on the brute and pinned it with his arm stlill in its yap. With his free hand he got out his jackknife, opened it with one hand and stabbed it repeatedly until it was dead.
He almost bled to death on the long walk out. He spent a few months in hospital recovering from his wounds.

Tough buggers, both of them!

Ever heard the saying, "Don't take a knife to a gun fight." In this case, don't take a rimfire where a centerfire is needed.

Yeah, a wolverine is a tough bugger alright, just like the football team that uses him for a mascot, Univ. of Michigan.

I saw a video of a wolverine and a mountain lion disputing a dead animal. It was a pretty even tussle. Finally the cougar just gave up and let the wolverine have the dead animal. Those little guys are brutal. Best wishes.

I walked up on a wolverine in Northern Wyoming one day and it scared the crap out of me. It snarled and I ran like Hell.

I still remember that the critter had an awful smell about him, not unlike a skunk.

I caught a show once that had an episode on wolverines, i think it was on eithr animal planet, or discovery channel.

It mentioned that they had been known to chase bears off their food, nasty tempeed little buggers.

:D Funny how that smell followed him all the way home! :p

I expect I gagged him or choked him on my dust...:D

This is a kewl topic,..and fitting as well,...I`m back!
I am now living in Ohio,...(again).

Anyways,..Wolverines aren`t really all that little,...I believe I saw one (in the woods),in Montana,..about 12 yrs ago,..and he went at least 45 lbs.That`s purty good size.

And for anyone to think that they could kill a Wolverine with a .22 cal.?!!! They deserve to have had been taught that lesson,,....the hard way.

Wolverines are not much different then the Cartoon character of The X-Men , Wolverines will "Slice N Dice " ya,if they get the chance.
Best bet is this,..If you come accross a Wolverine,...keep your distance,...Don`t run,..They love the hunt,...and the challenge.
And if you dare go to shoot one,you better have at least a 357 , or bigger.

Well I am glad to be back,..and glad to see alot of the regs are still here and some new ones as well.

Hands down, no contest...the wolverine.

I think a wolverine could (and would be happy to) take on a dozen badgers at once. He'd kick their butts and eat 'em, too.

The taxidermist that sets up next to me at the Reno Gun Show had two mounted wolverines this trip. The larger of the two was a monster and went about 60 pounds live weight. Both were from Canada.

The taxidermist calls them "turbo weasels" and that's apt.
